So I think at least Spider-Man is the household name,not sure about other superhero.

Government force student to read some western/Russia famous fiction book,every 2-3 grades student should do that because is their homework,and the story plot of the book will test in some exam(like ,Chinese exam is 120 marks ,and “familiar with famous book” is like 5 marks),so yes,they’re popular. Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings are also mandatory for student to read,Harry Potter/Sherlock Holmes is mandatory for elementary school,The Lord of the Ring is for junior high school,Shakespare’s novel also,there’s a list of book that every students should read and will test in exam.I was not so happy for reading these book when I was a student(because you really need to read a lots of book at spare time,meanwhile you need to study your own class),but thanks to this policy,all of classic western character become super well-known.

Same in China,Barbie doll is never popular,the yearly revenue of Barbie in China is not even as much as Australia consider we are the way bigger market,Mettal even closed the store in Shanghai to make sure they can cover the budget of business run in China But the things is confused that Barbie is not popular brand but is a super well-known brand.Is just like James Bond and Batman,James Bond and Batman’s box office performance in China is sucks ,but everybody know these two character.Bond even become some kind of daily used word(like when you try to do something dangerous people will say ‘who do you think who you are?007 ?’Something,so as Barbie ,is become daily culture reference,like when a girl making a very heavy makeup people will said “what a deadly Barbie makeup”.. This is kind strange things,the brand that everybody know but won’t pay money for them

Will this hurt Barbie popularity as a Brand in Japan? Really curious since Barbie brand hurt its reputation because of feminist in China,but the brand is never been popular in China according to Mattel’s finical report,thought Barbie dolls is well known but is not popular.so there’s not much problem(when your market is niche ,most people won’t care what happened),curious about situation in Japan
