  1. The story & drama of how Clark trying to struggle with his "alien-ness" should be central. Trying to fit in the whole Krypton mythology with all the hard scifi concepts just too much for the GA to take. The action is way too much and too "extended" to be enjoyable. And Superman drowning in skulls is too dark for kids who come expecting a cleaner, safer superhero like Spidey. One kid kept crying when the skull scene came on, LOL. You expect some dark, intense stuff from BATMAN because he is the Dark Knight, the guy who can afford to get his hands dirty. Batman is associated with the darkness, Superman the light. The two is like the Yin-Yang of DC Universe. Somebody at Warner (or Legendary) didn't actually like the boy scout aspect of Superman. Not enough selfless, people-saving scenes in MoS which is the most popular aspect of any Superman story. Audience expects to see that. There is also an interesting interview with Jim Lee, a well known Marvel comic book artist, who is now the publisher at DC. He said something very peculiar: "We have nothing to do with the new Superman movie..."
  2. You want your movie to sell, don't make it complicated. 300 is not a very popular comic book but Warner stuck to the central idea : Spartans vs Persians. And it worked.
  3. This is almost like somebody is saying: Don't waste your money on original ideas. It's very depressing.
  4. Nor NYSM with $70M budget. OHF has DIE HARD5-level budget without a big name (well, biggish) movie star like Bruce Willis.
  5. it looks like CONJURING will blow past $200M with insane legs.
  6. Well, having said that, Cavill is great as Supe, the visual style is pretty impressive. They just need better story, dialogues. A more streamlined story. I think their approach to the myth is refreshing & any hardcore scifi fans would understand what the filmmakers trying to get at. But to GA, they want to see something more, ehm, down-to-Earth. Kinda difficult when Supe is an alien. and this is an origin story. Before you laugh, try telling it in a different way, more creatively. You will see it is a big challenge to write/visualize a difficult concept. How would you do it?
  7. Actually I was frustrated that the filmmakers behind IM2 dropped the ball. IM2 has the best villain (Rourke is great in it), the best second fiddle villain in Hammer, the best suit-up scene (the race track attack), the best...OK you get the point. They waste it with a burger place meeting with Nick Fury..? The whole scene where RDJ trying to invent an element? Scarlet and her perfectly salooned hair? Hammer hawking his toys? Where they should focus on Whiplash and his conflict with Tony.
  8. Actually this is a big opening considering the trailer has left me cold...
  9. I like the tone of MoS, they got it right. But I think the story is unnecessarily complex for multiplex audience and too "scifi" to swallow (the whole Krypton thing, the genesis chamber etc). Superman drowning in skull, LOL, one kid was crying at a showing I was in. Another left with his parents: "Noo, I don't want to see this.."
  10. James Wan is a talented guy but another haunted house thriller...? And how is this special?
  11. That's what I heard abt Sandler being a nice guy. But I real wish he would do something more than fart/gay/racial jokes which are still the mainstay of his brand of comedy
  12. I think you should take a look at the movies much worse than MoS: SM3, TASM, FF, FF:ROSS, GHOST RIDER1/2, XMEN3, WOLVIE ORIGIN, and yes, the second half of IM2/3
  13. Who is the hot girl in your Sig?
  14. Well, I kinda expect it to do $70M OW but at least there is still a substantial fan base for the character, and not bombing at $30M+
  15. The book makes a very interesting observations regarding ancient cultures and so on. But the movie is dull as hell. Amelie is a charming girl but she has zero chemistry with Tom Hanks. Kal el's mother is a little better in the sequel.
  16. Why can't Hollywood globally "day and date" their movies like MATRIX RELOADED? Solve the cam-piracy problem.
  17. TR has fantastic visual and of course the Daft Punk soundtrack. But its 3rd act with its out-of-place dogfights is very weak I saw the 3D engagement and it was pretty good. Kosinski has a future
  18. c'mon, don't be like that! c'mon!
  19. German numbers is really pathetic despite featuring their homegrown actress in the cast
  20. Daft Punk TR soundtrack is a perennial mainstay in my iTunes "Recently Played" library Greatest evuh?
  21. While CONJURING is a pretty good horror flick I don't see how this is significantly better than some of the more memorable horrors like INSIDIOUS, GRUDGE etc.
  22. Did very well in UK & very good in Australia & France. But Germany & Russia completely ignored the movie. Mexico & Brazil which are very receptive to superhero movies are not too hot too. The biggest surprise is still China. At $63M it is the largest overseas gross from a single country. WB should really take note.
  23. ...very bad scheduling from China Intentional?
