  1. According to Google Finance 1 USD = 6.1265 CNY FF6 Opening at 181M RMP = US$29.5M ?
  2. Before TURBO can accumulate coins, Sony crowd the market with SMURFS2. Animation is not as popular as action movies to be downloaded through pirate websites. Why can't studio stagger the release. Overseas schedule seems more open to staggering. Some foreign operators love to pit 2 big releases against one another to... kill their chances of success? Not.Making.Sense.
  3. With China & Japan, it could do more than 250M OS
  4. How much you will be expecting PR to earn in Japan? TF3 did $50+M. Can it do that kind of number?
  5. Japan may give MoS the last bump it needs. Last weekend overseas is only $7M (my source is Mojo, so somebody check other sources), this movie is slowly grinding to a halt. Brazil is not so hot, so Japan needs to pick up the slack to carry it to $700M WW. It will be a cruel twist of fate for WB to miss 2 milestones at 2 fronts (DOM $300M, WW $700M) for its most anticipated new franchise.
  6. Why SPIDER-MAN is popular around the world despite a rather awkward direction by Raimi?
  7. Initial yes. But I heard PACRIM is stealing its business. Maybe close but no $800M cigar.
  8. But there is an upfront one-time fee to show the movie...?
  9. Let's not forget an origin story, first one on the series, SPIDER-MAN made $890M WW back in 2002
  10. MoS has its share of flaws but I don't think it is "empty" I like PACRIM but it is what you can call a rather "empty" film like RIPD, IM3, GU2 and many others released this summer.
  11. Like I say, whoever at Paramount that lets go of Marvel is crazy. Maybe they don't have the financial upper-hand like Disney. But now, all Disney needs to do is to go on autopilot: 2 Marvel movies/year, 1 SW movie/year, 1 Pixar/year, 1 Disney animation/year, top share of the year, for years to come.
  12. They did a great job with FF6, a no-fuss, all-buzz action thriller with fast cars. Other studios scrambling to inject post-911 dramatic weight into their action movies, trying to emulate the success of Nolan TDK with little success while confusing the GA who comes for entertainment.
  13. Unless it breaks out in China. Mediocre movies has shown to have surprising resurgence & resilience in China. This looks great on imax screens
  14. Summer 2013 is propped up by sheer number of mediocre films.
  15. No breakouts this summer other than IM3 & DM2. MoS is very good but unspectacular. By this time in 2007, there are 3 $300M hits and TF1 already did close to $300M. Despite so many potential for $300M, including MoS, MU & PR, this summer has let ....us....down. PS: I know a poster that declared PR will be a generational movie the way SW did. I want to let him know I feel his pain. GdT & team put a lot of energy into PR but it remains a curiosity instead of a breakout hit everybody's expecting. I saw it on IMAX and it is spectacularly entertaining but strictly for die-hard genre fans. Need more comic lines, and stronger story. Dunham is gonna get more roles, he is very good in that role. He's got a great voiceover skill.
  16. I think it can do closer to $130M
  17. WHD, a conventional all American action picture, performs better in China than it did in US. With $19M, it will do more than DH5's $30M, which is comparatively better than the $75-77M it would end up with in US. Is the world going nuts or what?
  18. WOLVIE total prediction? It's hard to put these indicators into perspective: this Russian thread used Ruble, the French uses tickets, the HK thread uses weekly drops.
  19. I would lick his boots anytime but I know the danger of fanaticism. But...look at this guy's resume. No recent director has his track record: MEMENTO, an indie sensation, a stunt, a high concept that works INSOMNIA, high concept thriller, Robin Williams as villain, works in same murky morality play as MEMENTO, PRESTIGE BATMAN BEGINS, probably the best superhero ever PRESTIGE, this is one of those WTF movies, dueling magicians (is that a first?), , one of my favorite movies of all time, you can dissect this movie any which way and you will come across something interesting THE DARK KNIGHT, nuff said INCEPTION, an insanely high concept movie that defies genre & categories, one that Warner Bros actually green-lighted despite marketing headache. THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, people love it less, I say the first half, up until the silly street brawl and the sillier vehicular chase (which Nolan clearly shows no interest because it is so uninteresting and overlong) is an impressive drama of Titanic struggle to regain one's purpose in life I mean look the consistency of quality in this guy's work....
