I saw ELYSIUM trailer on IMAX and the soundtrack is so deafening that I fear the whole auditorium would collapse. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing. Th best sound mix of the year is still TDKR.

More promotional campaigns in Asia? China may still warm up to the sequels, MJ. South Korea number is not so bad. But Japan's persistent indifference to US movies is not helping either.

GRAVITY is like a lot of cologne sold today: it's unisex

Audience is starving for a premium family fare. Thanksgiving+ Disney animation = can't lose. The trailers don't look that impressive and I never predicted anything more than $55M for 3-day. This is great news for Disney...again.

HOBBIT2 doesn't really matter to THOR2. If TDW has a rival it is Katniss. And THOR2 got capped when CF opened huge and maintains a surprising hold this coming weekend.

I agree with most of what you have said except for this :

Holy cr*p, that will make GRAVITY a completely different film and a very dark one. I do feel the 11th hour inspiration by Bullock (+the hopeful hallucination) is a little contrived. And the spectacular re-entry scene...how can you completely excise that.

Anyway, other local releases are not doing too great either...

Ignoring the budget, I am surprised it is doing more than $100M WW at all.

Seems to me CF is pretty good in Europe, meh in Asia, and spectacular in English-speaking countries
