Fact is mocking writers because of what they supposedly wrote is stupid, all movies get rewrites at some point with like sometimes 4 to 5 credits, I bet most of the time, the original or credited writers' script has nothing to do with what's on screen. I think Cameron knows what he's doing obviously.
Don't get why critics are harsh on this, it's imo a very clever movie full of extremely charismatic cast, great set pieces, full of twists and turns, very funny, a real crowd pleaser.
We always said this was going to be a hard sell from the beginning, the movie has no star power, del Toro is unknown from the GA, the genre is primarily aimed at fanboys, geeks, Kaiju fans, and yet, the movie is on track to 350-400 million WW, how is that not good? The budget is 190 M (allegedly so) yes, but it could have been much much worse.
The number in France is good, it's an original movie, it's doing more than Monsters University there, and plenty of movies have underperformed over there too, so it's good.
Stop twisting reality, 650 + M for MOS is great, why? Superman Returns barely did 360 M, this made 300 M more, one of the biggest reboots ever, it is fantastic, simple as that.
China + Japan could contribute more than 100 M together, 350-400 M is the target I think, considering how After Earth, Oblivion and other original properties underwhelmed this summer, it's pretty good.
Hum, what is all the fuss about? It's a good number, considering that Origins was a turd and nearly ruined the franchise. The 80 M tracking figure was ridiculous, it was always aiming at 60-70 M, the budget is super low, it's going to be big overseas, why so negative?
Fact is XFC had an extremely rushed production, The VFX teams (among which was WETA) had like a couple of months to do it all. Considering that, the result is pretty impressive.
The beach scene is really fantastic yeah, my favorite moment is definitely when Moira walks up to Magneto when he loses his mind, and begins firing her gun, leading to Xavier getting one in the back, this is such a badass moment.
Yeah, true, it becomes superheroic in the third act (and that's the problem some critics have with it, but it's fine really).
Wolverine does act very heroic though.
I read 125 M but it's in the ballpark, pretty impressive still. The film is pretty contained in its scale compared to other superhero movies, and it is a very smart choice as it makes the movie stand out.
