  1. Yeah, that's good, Origins was a disaster, so it's good. Pac Rim is an exception apart from horror movies I think, for it to make 3.4 M and then just 38 M OW, it was just super frontloaded.
  2. Are these numbers from one movie theater? Like, you seriously use stats from ONE theater to extrapolate? Wow
  3. Already saw this, it's a neat technical achievement, does it make it impactful? The answer to me, is no. And I spoke of good editing, of course poor editing will make it bad. However, quick cuts do work sometimes, depends how it's done, it can make it more raw, visceral.
  4. About tracking shots being self-indulgent, that's what I feel, it's all good to have like a 2, 3 minute tracking shot, but go above, and it starts feeling to me anyway like the director is furiously jerking off behind the camera, thinking "yeah look what I can do, look at me". I'm sure Cuaron does it because he really loves it and he feels in some way that it's integral to his movies, but it just feels too much, too pretentious, gimmicky. I also feel that you don't get any impact with tracking shots like in COM or this here, I don't feel involved, I feel an odd sense of detachment, I do believe that good editing definitely helps adding impact and flair to the action, like if you'd shoot a fight sequence, would the punches feel as powerful or as impactful as a tracking shot? I doubt it.
  5. Yeah well The Hobbit: DOS will be a main contender, but Pac Rim is the best this year so far. @vc2002, Pac Rim is much more interesting visually than Transformers ever will be, it basically looks ten thousand times better to me.
  6. This will bomb, it looks good, but I don't doubt for a second that the general audience seeing this trailer will be like "So it's about two people floating in space for 2 hours?", hell, if I didn't know that the movie has much more to offer than what is shown here, I wouldn't even be interested. Looking forward to it but there's something odd going on with the visuals, this last trailer looks magnificent, and yet, it's very CG looking, since just the faces of Bullock and Clooney are real. Tracking shot is impressive but as said, it's all CG, even if the stuff used to shoot this was crazy in its complexity, there's still a lot of cheating involved. What I fear is that this is going to feel like a gimmick on 2 hours, there's something very impressive to a well done tracking shot, but after a certain amount of time, it feels like the director is just doing it because he can, it feels very self-conscious. But yeah, I'm one of those who's very skeptical on Cuaron, Prisoner Of Azkaban is fantastic, but COM is very overrated.
  7. I'd like to live in that world of yours where PR has bad acting (when it does not) and bad action when it just has the best action ever put on screen besides Avatar, but of course that would entail actually knowing what you're talking about.
  8. It's still money, fact is all the merchandising is selling really well and is regularly sold out, why can't you just admit that? The movie is NOT a flop either, if this is considered a flop considering it'll probably end up in the 350-400 M WW range all in, then Star Trek 09 was a flop, Cap America was a flop, and etc, etc. Legendary paid for 75 % of the budget, do not forget that, it makes quite a bit of difference, that amounts to 125 M marketing excluded. This WILL be profitable.
  9. You guys are unbelievable. Yep, Guillermo del Toro has been forced, compelled should I say to go on his fansite's forum, to post this, because obviously, he's a big director and has no idea what he's talking about about his movie's grosses. Also, Guillermo only posts from time to time, no one is forcing him to, the forum has very few people on it, it's not a SPIN. "I honestly doubt"? WTF man, do you have numbers as he probably has? God, some are really rooting from the beginning for this to fail, why? I don't know. It's doing good overseas considering it's a fricking ORIGINAL property of a genre that's a geek/Kaiju fans exclusive.
  10. I think del Toro is in a better position than you are on this subject, no? I know it's been in the top 10 of NY Times best sellers for 4 weeks. For a graphic novel, those are good sales, this is not a single issue, it's a hardcover. http://www.nytimes.com/best-sellers-books/hardcover-graphic-books/list.html
  11. For what it's worth, Guillermo del Toro posted himself a thread on his forum saying that he's thrilled with how Pac Rim is doing overseas, and that the NECA toys & graphic novel are flying off the shelves, and they're constantly restocking those.
  12. The sequel has already been greenlit like a month ago, Snyder & Goyer returning.
  13. From Mr Saul Goodman on Twitter@mrbobodenkirk: I paid an exorbitant 9.7 million dollars for a ticket to The Lone Ranger last night and was alone in the theatre. Still, I kinda liked it.
  14. WWZ and MU obviously hit MOS pretty hard, but 275-300 M is locked, no? That's amazing considering how unsuccessful was Superman Returns.
  15. Gosh, Firedeep has gone off the deep end, he's losin it.
  16. I think it's safe to assume that with IM3, maybe there's an overdose of blockbusters happening. Buzz for this seemed pretty high, lets hope it rebounds.
  17. You're becoming a joke Fire, you should chill, stop running your mouth without facts.
  18. The Avengers mediocre? Dex, you wanna be taken seriously? No, seriously, you can not like a movie like The Avengers but saying it is mediocre is misguided and just wrong.
  19. You gotta understand that nobody but ultra geeks (because I'm a geek, and dont care what they did with the Mandarin) gives a shit about this, so they're rewarding the movie for its quality, that's it.
  20. Losing your shit over comic book movies is geeky, mainstream audiences can dig or love superhero movies, but it's something on an entirely different level for geeks, or at least, that's how I feel about it.
