  1. Pretty entertaining and a fun time at the theater, some great visual effects, Robert Downey Jr. was excellent as usual but the villain once again was kind of lame, although better than IM2. I don't know, it was pretty good but not sure if I have any desire to see it again until the Blu-ray release. ***¾/*****, (B+, 7.5/10, 3/4)
  2. Seems spot on. With a cast like that, Crowe and Zeta-Jones (who was only in it for what seemed like 5-minutes), I expected more. However, the plot is convoluted and the dialogue was bad. The only thing that would've turned it around was if on the big contract the one signature would be Lex Luthor, seemed kind of fitting for him... Anyway, not terrible but pretty bland and utterly forgettable, a fatal flaw with any movie because at least a terrible movie (see: Batman & Robin) will be remembered for many years later while the average ones will blend in with one another. **½/*****, (C, 4.8/10, 2/4)

  4. Exactly. What I love about these kind of movies (and the Saw sequels are lumped in there) is how much time, effort and money these killers have to put together the traps and set-up their houses of horrors. This one takes the cake from the beginning as I guess The Collector set up this rave and managed to get hundreds inside to get slaughtered? It's utterly laughable though at least it's only 74-minutes (sans credits). *¾/*****, (D, 3.7/10, 0.75/4)
  5. I'm surprised they didn't for the Blu-ray release. I guess if it was distributed by Universal or Fox it would have...
  6. I don't care so much about the growth (or lack thereof) but how these people treated others from Pete and Debbie towards the kid and his mother (again, what did they do to deserve it?) to Pete's father and taking advantage of his son (and Pete not standing up to him). I don't know, they all turned me off.
  7. I have to admit, I hated this movie. It's not very funny (I only chuckled a couple of times), the subplots seemed to go nowhere (i.e. the boutique store theft was useless) and the entire thing felt mean spirited culminating with Debbie (Leslie Mann) cursing out a kid. I realize she was pregnant and profusely apologized, but it turned me off to the character and only got worse when Pete does the same thing to the mother (played by Melissa McCarthy who I've never found funny anyway). As obnoxious as the mother was, neither of these characters acted like adults. What did this mother do that was so wrong? Sure, she should've done it in a more private setting but she was defending her son and what does Pete do? Only escalate matters. And I have to ask, what did the kid do that was so egregious? Yeah, he was a punk but all 12-13 year old boys are jerks and their daughter already properly handled it. Ugh, that's only the beginning and I really don't want to get into Albert Brooks' self-centered, irresponsible character who didn't have any issues asking for money from his son who has his own family to support. His business wasn't going well and decided because he didn't have the balls to tell his wife no, he goes along with her having a kid (which then turns into triplets)??? And as someone mentioned, this is just a depressing movie and the characters don't grow. I initially, on my own ratings list, a 1.75/5 but it's infuriated me to no end since watching it... By next week this could be down to a 0/5 *½/*****, (D-, 3.2/10, 1/4)

  9. Watched this last night and thought it was surprisingly dull. The story was at best thin, the new characters, save for Thorin, were indistinguishable and the movie moved at a snails pace that I got kind of bored at a certain point. No doubt it looks great and the production design was excellent but I just was not interested in anything else except for perhaps Gollum's scene which manage to wake me up. Otherwise this was a bore of a film and although I will eventually see the other two movies, I have to wonder how the hell they'll stretch the story to fill another 5.5 hours... It's not all bad, of course, with fine performances from Martin Freeman and Richard Armitage, I just wish the plot was more captivating. ***/*****, (C+, 5.8/10, 2.25/4)
  10. I know what you mean. Not a traditional drama but the characters are interesting and speaks to you depending on your age or moment in life (if that makes sense). Shame Bill Murray didn't get the Oscar that year (Sean Penn won for Mystic River).
  11. What's with the old posts on most of the review threads? I see most dating back to like November 2012...

  13. Lost in Translation - I saw this in the theater and by the end I was completely hooked. There was something about the isolation of the two characters in such a vast and populated city that struck a chord for some reason. It's a movie that I routinely watch every year.
  14. I agree with this. And as a fan of Joe Wright's previous works like Pride & Prejudice and Atonement (which was my favorite movie of 2007, I found this to be a hollow movie that despite some wonderful production design and an interesting style of mixing stage with traditional movie-making. I understand, storywise, what the message was and all but I didn't care for most of these characters save for Oblonsky (Macfadyen) and Kitty (Alicia Vikander). **½/*****, (C, 5.2/10, 2/4)
