  2. I especially agree with this... I actually thought the film came a screeching stop when he was telling his story. I completely lost interest during that scene. Still, I liked the movie as it mostly kept my attention and it was thrilling, but kind of a letdown but only because of the hype. I understand the cultural impact but just because it changed cinema doesn't necessarily mean it should get a pass. Same kind of argument has been made of Citizen Kane, a movie I enjoyed but didn't love (yet still acknowledging the technological achievements). Despite not really loving the movie, it still has a ton of replay value thanks in large part to Roy Scheider and, especially, Richard Dreyfuss. Those two are great on screen and more than make up for any flaws. ****¼/*****, (A-, 8.7/10, 3.25/4)

  5. Dang, based on some of the comments here, sounds like the next one will be called The Bourne Backlash. Anyway, solid early numbers, will be interesting to see how it pans out. Oh, and if TDKR does indeed get around $20M, excellent hold esp. against a movie I thought would take a fair amount of business away from it.
  6. Eh, it was OK. Farrell and Knightley were fine but the story never really connected with me. Ultimately it's another forgettable film from Colin Farrell. C+
  7. Impressive weekend for TDKR. TR... not so much. I'll still likely see it but not until its released on Blu-ray which shouldn't be too long :lol:As a side, the "movieman" Hasan referred isn't me. I assume he's talking about "movieman89"?
  8. Batman Begins, Ghostbusters, The Godfather, Lost in Translation, Quick Change
  9. I think combined with the good will garnered by the title and solid WOM (and reviews), it could do very well (or at the very least have strong legs).
  10. Agreed. It's not going to be close given TDKR will maybe get ~$17M while TBL I think will get at least $40M.Edit: Not to mention The Campaign which should also surpass TDKR.

  12. Pretty average story and terrible CGI early on (the chase sequence was particularly awful) but Guy Pearce was good and it was at least passable entertainment. **¾/*****, (C, 5.6/10, 2.25/4)
  13. I loved SJ but she wasn't given as much to do since she was part of a larger ensemble, so it is a bit of an unfair comparison. With the poll at hand, voted for AH. She was so incredible as Catwoman and so damn hot.
  14. Can someone point me to the Dark Knight Rises review thread? Anyway, finally saw TDKR today and loved every minute of it. I liked how Nolan paid homage to the comic book but still kept it in his own world. Yeah, it's not quite as good as TDK but still in its own right is well made from beginning to end. Bane is a bad ass villain and I think this was Bale's best performance out of the 3 movies. And once again, perfect casting with Anne Hathaway as she really did a great job, too bad we can't get a feature Catwoman film with her. Also liked how Nolan & Co. closed things out giving Bruce a perfect character arc from BB to TDKR, it's the best adaptation thus far and I can't see how it can be topped. I'm still thinking about the last 15-minutes as it gives me goosebumps that this is the Batman trilogy I've been waiting for. They delivered once again. ****½/*****, (A, 9.2/10, 3.5/4) Please note, I rarely give 5/5, A+ ratings so while I loved it, it's not on the same level as, say, The Godfather. Ranking the Batman movies: 1. The Dark Knight 2. The Dark Knight Rises 3. Batman Begins 4. Batman (1989) 5. Batman: Mask of the Phantasm 6. Batman Forever 7. Batman Returns 8. Batman (1966) 9-99: Reserved for Future Batman movies 100. Batman & Robin ** Right now I have TDKR above BB but once I see it again, it could be switched.
  15. Re: 3D - It should be noted that it was probably up to Nolan as he no doubt had almost complete control over the project and he's been adamant about not liking 3D...As for the numbers, not sure why people are getting all depressed. Yes, it sucks but given the circumstances, not sure why anyone is surprised. For me, this weekend will tell the story.
  16. For me it's not apprehension out of fear but sorrow that 12 lives were lost just going to the movies. Not so much as a Batman fan but as a fan of cinema, it's something that struck to the core. I'm still going to see TDKR this week as planned, but it will be something in the back of my mind.
  17. If anyone still plays, The Avengers 2 IPO will be on July 21st @ $220.00/share.

  19. Just a mess of a film. Not sure what was up with the late 90s, early 00s, but there was something about characters with frosted blonde hair, lol. The performances from Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron are bad and the story certainly doesn't help.
