  1. Not sure how many people have seen this, but it's not a bad sci-fi drama. Christopher Walken is fairly mainstream in terms of his performance and he shares some great chemistry with Natalie Wood in her final performance. It is slow to develop but I enjoyed the concept and performances.
  2. Just a bad movie all around. Poor visual effects, the acting is over-the-top and the story itself is lame. I hope they do a reboot, maybe cast Idris Elba as Al Simmons/Spawn...
  3. Got quite a few recently:Star Trek: The Next Generation: Season One4:44 - Last Day on EarthThe Astronaut's WifeThe Butterfly EffectThe Butterfly Effect 2CellularFriends with KidsHard to KillJust CauseMargaretMean StreetsMurder in the FirstNext of KinA Perfect Murder
  4. Nice to see Cillian Murphy back even if it's just another cameo.
  5. And absolute classic and has become one of my favorites since seeing only for the second time a couple months back (I had seen it before in my teens but never really followed it closely enough). Jack Nicholson is brilliant and Faye Dunaway is stunningly tragic in her role. "Forget it Jake. It's Chinatown." *****/*****, (A+, 10/10, 4/4)
  6. Wasn't in love with or enanmored with the story but it is visually interesting, so that alone I gave it a B/B+, though I haven't had any desire to revisit it after it was released on Blu-ray...
  7. BrainstormCertified CopySpawnSupermanSuperman IISuperman IIISuperman IV: The Quest for PeaceSuperman Returns^ Didn't see any of the Superman movies on the main list...BTW, can direct-to-video movies (released in North America) be added? There are several comic book animated titles...
  8. Another one I thought of:Batman & Robin: Arnold Schwarzenegger over George Clooney
  9. Hopefully this makes sense, but I was wonder if people can list movies where the actor playing the main/primary character was not top billed. Here's what I came up with:Batman - Jack Nicholason over Michael KeatonSuperman - Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman over Christopher ReeveSuperman II - Gene Hackman over Christopher Reeve (ditto for the Donner Cut which has Brando credited third after Reeve)Supergirl - Faye Dunaway over Helen SlaterSpawn - John Leguizamo over Michael Jai White
  10. Love this movie, it never gets old. ****½/*****, A, 9.1/10, 3.5/4)
  11. I'm starting to hate Avatar because so many take such resentment to those who hate it (or at least don't care for it). ;)For me, I liked it for the 3D but the story was predictable and the characters, which is the driving force, are stereotypical in every way. "Dexter of Suburbia" already well described them so no need to rehash it. In the end, I thought it was OK (if not for the 3D, I would've given a "C+", with 3D it drove it to a "B"). However, since its release on home video, I haven't had the desire to watch it again and to be fair, I haven't had much of a desire to revisit Inception outside of one viewing when it came out on Blu-ray (and that was to review it, so I kind of had to).
  12. Not only is it scary but it's really the only good Western remake of an Asian horror film (and unfortunately spawned a few stinkers along the way, plus a sequel which was pretty bad IIRC).
  13. Yeah, really liked this movie and it not only didn't take itself too seriously but poked fun at what they were doing. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill make a great comedy duo, Brie Larson is a hottie and most importantly, the jokes landed. Unlike Pineapples Express (which I enjoyed overall), this seemed about the right length and didn't overstay its welcome. Also nice to see, although I already knew about it beforehand, the ***¾/*****, (B+, 7.6/10, 3/4)
  14. Maybe, but it'll be tough to wrangle them together again (even the primary players). IMO, it ended the series nicely and made up for the disappointing third movie.
  15. 21 Jump StreetBlade and Blade Trinity (difficult to find, no stores in my area even carried these)
  16. Acceptable entry into the franchise and Val Kilmer I thought did an admirable job, especially following Michael Keaton. My biggest quibble is it was a test run of what would become Batman & Robin, just with better writing (which says a lot about B&R). Nicole Kidman was a fun love interest and Chris O'Donnell wasn't annoying, so there's that. I didn't mind this like some fans but it's a far cry from Batman '89. ***¼/*****, (B-, 6.6/10, 2.75/4)
  17. Never was a big fan of Returns but can appreciate it, like any Tim Burton movie, for the production and costume designs. Michelle Pfeiffer is great as Catwoman but as much as I appreciate Danny DeVito's passion for The Penguin (in the interviews included in the Special Edition DVDs, he was animate about it and seemed to really enjoy playing the character), but it was an abomination compared with his comic book counterpart. I also really didn't care for Batman, you know, outright murdering people (turning the Batmobile around and torching one henchman, strapping on a bomb to the fat henchman later); and yes, I realize he didn't exactly give Ras Al Ghul a helping hand in Batman Begins, but something about that seemed different. ***/*****, (C+, 6.1/10, 2.5/4)
  18. Simple: Bloody awful, FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT movie. Not just a bad BATMAN movie, just a terrible movie, period! But it did eventually give us Batman Begins so I can't complain too much because if it were passable and made a decent buck at the box office, Warner would've continued on that trajectory. -*****/*****, (F-, -10/10, -4/4)
  19. Underrated and often overlooked comedy from Bill Murray that has some truly funny scenes. The ensemble cast with Randy Quaid and Geena Davis is great. I actually think I saw this in the theaters back in 1990... ***¾/*****, (B+, 7.6/10, 3/4)
