You know, I don't even need to know how good Pets is or isn't, it honestly deserves the original animated OW record. Illumination started marketing it a full year ago, and they were brilliant in the campaign from start to finish. And that's one long campaign to maintain. They deserve to be rewarded for their advanced marketing prowess.

Yeah, Incredibles was one of Pixar's least attended films at the time of release, when many expected it to be massive thanks to coming off of Nemo. Still a big hti and hopefully the years of sequel demands from fans will help I2, but I wouldn't expect much more than IO numbers.

The Purge: Election Year | July 1, 2016
MovieMan89 replied to CJohn's topic in Box Office Discussion
This has to be the only horror trilogy in history to get more critical acclaim with each installment. Hell, one of the only trilogies period. -
I'm sure Tangled is more profitable with merchandise added in, but in terms of box office WiR was actually the bigger success. Remember Tangled had a gargantuan $260m budget, thanks to its tumultuous production, and didn't quite hit 600m WW. WiR on the other hand did close to 500 on a 165m budget. The profit from box office for WiR was probably twice as much or more than Tangled's.

Much like the superhero theme made Incredibles ripe for a sequel, so does the gaming theme for WiR. I see nothing about Zootopia that says the story should continue. It is completely and perfectly contained in one film. I can think of at least 20 WDAS films that seem more sequel ready, including Tangled and BH6 from this era.
-
I am highly against Zootopia 2. WiR is one of the few WDAS movies ever that actually felt like it should have a sequel all along, and Frozen 2 was simply unavoidable. But Zootopia 2 seems highly unnecessary. The first doesn't lend well to a sequel and I'm not even convinced it's the kind of hit where a sequel would also be successful. It feels very much like a one and done and I hope WDAS cools it with the sequels. They will lose their regained seating on the throne if they focus on them over originals.

Not a bad way to define it, but for me it's a little more exclusive. I don't think it should average to one film a year, we don't get a box office phenomenon every year on average.

This will make you a little more thankful for this summer's slate:

Whatev, all I'm saying is that interview was blatantly riddled with subtle digs towards TFA.

This summer is essentially a repeat of 2003. Finding Nemo movies on top, followed by a huge live action Disney movie (Pirates 1/CW). Both had profitable Singer helmed X-Men films, and then a slew of commercial and critical failures, many of which were unwanted sequels: Terminator 3 / Alice 2 Bad Boys 2 / IDR Spy Kids 3D / TMNT2 Legally Blonde 2 / NYSM2 Charlie's Angels 2 / Neighbors 2 Tomb Raider 2 / Warfcraft League of Extraordinary Gentlemen / Tarzan Daddy Day Care / Ice Age?? Now we just need a big comedy hit like Bruce Almighty (Ghostbusters?), a grittier action hit like The Matrix Reloaded (Suicide Squad?), and an older skewing hit like Seabiscuit (Bourne?) and the parallel will be complete.
