  1. So, is IM3 acting like a family movie? I mean, it had a big Sat number followed by a big Monday drop. Well, it's not that big actually. I just hoped for a softer drop. I guess we'll know that this Fri & Sat.
  2. Damn! 504M already? With 175M 2nd weekend? Wow. I never thought it would do more than 700M OS, let alone 800M! But yes, beating DH2 WW seems unlikely. Btw, IM3 is now the 2nd movie ever that made more than $10M in Indoensia. The first one was The Avengers (all time #1 - $11.9M total), and IM3 is already at $10.6M in 2 weeks! That is ridiculous. It's not only gonna break the record, it's gonna CRUSH it. Nah, it's solid actually. You must remember, superhero movies other than Spider-Man have never been big in Japan. It's going to make more than $20M, maybe $25M or even more depending on the legs. That is great for a superhero movies, especially Iron Man, who was literally unknown before the movies, and nobody cared about until The Avengers. Also, Japan is not an expanding market. So like in other established markets, you can't expect it to outgross TA.
  3. 62.8-64.4M?? What the.... I told you the kids would love it! Late to the party as always. Thanks to the time difference.
  4. I do agree that repeat business would be smaller than TA. I also saw TA twice at the theater but I still wanted to see it again. I saw IM3 twice and that was enough. I just disagree about how it is not appealing to the kids to the point that it won't have better legs than IM2.
  5. Yes, but the other kids at my show looked excited too. And there were a LOT of kids. I know, that's still a small sample, but I think I still can conclude that most kids will enjoy it. And I also didn't say that all kids would like it.
  6. Well, I went for the 2nd time with 3 kids. Not mine, my friends'. They all really had fun watching it. They couldn't stop talking about it afterwards. So I don't see any problem with the kids. How about that for "general public"?
  7. Ah, that's why I always skim through the previous pages to get the newest update. Btw, I had never heard about Mandarin until IM3. So the twist didn't bother me at all. Heck before 2008, I always thought Iron Man was a lame superhero lol. Although,
  8. I don't understand. The last 15 pages suggest that it still could get mid 160's. Now 160 is out? With 65+ OD like Rth said, it's not out, right?
  9. Indonesia since 2000. The numbers are from BOM. So is the definition of "superhero movies". 1. $11,949,911 Marvel's The Avengers (all time #1 2012 - probably 2013)2. $ 9,537,461 The Amazing Spider-Man3. $ 7,527,926 The Dark Knight Rises4. $ 5,301,345 Iron Man 3 (4 days)5. $ 5,216,902 Spider-Man 3 (all time #1 2007 - 2009)6. $ 4,487,383 Iron Man 27. $ 2,784,330 The Dark Knight8. $ 2,680,000 Superman Returns (2006 #1 movie)9. $ 2,436,721 The Green Hornet10. $ 2,342,436 Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance11. $ 2,327,389 Spider-Man 2 (2004 #1 movie)12. $ 2,147,484 Iron Man13. $ 2,046,208 Captain America : The First Avenger14. $ 1,859,110 Spider-Man (2002 #1 movie)15. $ 1,844,579 Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer16. $ 1,662,556 Hancock17. $ 1,642,659 X-Men Origins: Wolverine18. $ 1,624,517 Wanted19. $ 1,498,269 The Incredible Hulk20. $ 1,384,859 X-Men: The Last Stand21. $ 1,326,850 Ghost Rider22. $ 1,260,778 Megamind 23. $ 1,098,726 Fantastic Four24. $ 885,930 X2: X-Men United25. $ 660,949 Hulk26. $ 600,000 X-Men: First Class*27. $ 451,022 Green Lantern*28. $ 440,522 Hellboy 2: The Golden Army 29. $ 422,700 Batman Begins30. $ 373,532 X-Men31. $ 273,076 Thor* Thor, X-Men: First Class, and Green Lantern were released in the year when Hollywood movies were banned. So after the ban was lifted, those movies were released but only in small scale. That's why their numbers are low. Especially Thor, since the ban started just before the summer season for movies. Captain America was lucky because it was released just after the ban was lifted. But still it could've made more. Also, the market has expanded quickly since 2009. That's why the numbers for movies released before that were low compared to the newer ones. Spider-Man, Superman, and now Iron Man are the most popular. I expect big thing from MoS.
  10. Apparently that $4.5M was for 3 days! It CRUSHED the previous 3-day OW record (HP 7 pt 2 - $3,220,311). It would've been even higher had it opened on Friday. In 4 days it has already made $5,301,345! With TA's legs - $18,465,571 With Skyfall legs (also opened on Thursday) - $14,419,658 All time record (TA) - $11,949,911 Just WOW.
  11. Whaatt?? That's even bigger than I expected . It already outgrossed IM2 ($4.4M) in 4 days! With 2.7x multiplier (which is gonna be easy, considering its WOM and competition), it will beat TA's total, and all time record at the same time.
  12. Speaking of MoS, the trailer that was shown before IM3 got a very positive response. People were clapping and cheering. I was kinda surprised. I'm starting to think that it could challenge IM3's box office here. Especially if it's a good movie.
  13. Yeah there were 8 screens there, and they're using 6 of them for IM3. The other two were Oblivion, and some Chinese movie. Oh and one more screen for IMAX show. I know it sounds weird but it happens. When Hollywood movies were temporarily banned 2 years ago, movies that were already released had some crazy legs, because those were the only movies available to see . But mostly because it's Iron Man. Somehow he became the most popular superhero lately. So if there are no other movies, people will see it, regardless of its WOM.
  14. Oh I love it! My friends seemed to love it too. But I'm not sure about the WOM until I talk to more people. Usually the audience here prefers something more straight forward with a lot of bombastic action scenes like The Avengers or Transformers. And some people might not like this twist. But I don't know. With no competitions, WOM doesn't really matter anyway. And its OW's gonna be huge. The theater I went to was crazy, and it's basically only showing one movie. lol
  15. That's exactly how I would describe it. There was a wtf reaction at first and it took time to sink in. But then I thought it was hilarious and amazing at the same time. And I love the ending. The actions in the final scene were awesome too. What's interesting is that there were a lot of people who stayed for the post-credits scene. It's very rare here. When I saw TA, it was a sold out show, but only me, my friends, and like 5 other people did that.
  16. If I think about it, until 2 years ago, the biggest movie of all time was 2012 with $6.6 million. Now that movie is #7 on the all-time list, and the #1 movie (The Avengers) made almost twice its number. By the end of this summer, 2012 will probably be pushed out of the top 10, and there might be a new #1. So the market IS growing quite fast. You're right, I just have to wait.
  17. Yeah, but there are still not enough movie theaters. We only have around 165. For a country with 240 million people, that's an extremely low number. Also, almost half of the theaters are located in Jakarta (the capital city) and surrounding cities, very unevenly distributed. But yeah, it has the potential to be a big market. But to achieve that, we need more theaters.
  18. It will be released here in Indonesia in 2 days and the hype is HUGE! Everybody I know is planning to see this. We can buy tickets one week before its release date, and they are selling really fast. Pre-sales are common in other countries, but not here. It's extremely rare. The IMAX shows for Saturday are nearly sold out too. I think it could be the 2nd movie ever to cross $10 million, after The Avengers. All time record is possible as well, considering it has zero competition for 3 weeks until Star Trek. It's kinda unfair to Star Trek though. IM3 has 3 weeks for itself, while Star Trek has only one, before FF6 cuts its legs. And then FF6 has 2 weeks before MoS. I want them to move Star Trek a week earlier so it could get more room to grow legs. Anyways, bought the tickets for IM3, can't wait to see it!
  19. Yes, superhero movies have always been big in my country. TA is #1 movie of all time, TASM is #2, and TDKR is #4. All of other Spider-Man movies have always been the biggest in each year. We love anything with a lot of actions and special effects. I can't say anything about Thor 2 though. We can't really see the hype for movies here until at least one month before the release date. Sometimes as late as one week or even one day before. Also, the first movie was released in the year where most Hollywood movies were banned here (2011). The ban lasted for almost six months, and we missed most of summer movies that year. Thank God they lifted the ban just in time for the release of HP7 part 2 and TF3.
  20. And Indonesia. It will be huge here too. TA is by far the highest grossing movie of all time with almost $12m (previous record was HP7 part 2 with $8.2m). IM2 "only" made $4.5m, but thanks to the success of TA, I believe IM3 could double it, maybe even close to TA's number. Everybody is talking about it. People are saying they can't wait to see the movie. It's the most anticipated movie of the year.
  21. 10 markets actually. Korea grossed an outstanding KWN 5.4b (US$4.9m) with 680k admissions from 507 screens nationwide. JACK ranked #3 behind two local films. Malaysia: MYR 4.7m (US$1.5m), 352k admissions, 173 screens, rank #1. Thailand: Baht 44.1m (US$1.5m), 309k admissions, 183 screens, rank #1. Taiwan: NT$ 43.5m (US$1.5m), including sneaks, 154k admissions, 102 screens, rank #1. Philippines: Ps 50.5m (US$1.2m), 272k admissions, 176 screens, rank #1. Singapore: S$ 1.4m (US$1.1m), 134k admissions, 68 screens, rank #1. Hong Kong: HK$ 5.4m (US$696k), 65k admissions, 38 screens, rank #1.India: Rupee 36.8m (US$681k), 320k admissions, 442 screens, rank #4 behind three local films. Indonesia: Rp. 5.8m (US$581k), 147k admissions, 135 screens, rank #1 http://www.boxoffice.com/latest-news/2013-03-03-global-a-good-day-to-die-hard-passes-200-million It's really good in South East Asia, except Indonesia where it only got an okay result. It looks like we're more interested in Oz and waiting for it instead.
  22. OMG! I just saw the video. Sooo hilarious and adorable at the same time. I've always like JLaw, and I think she's a great actress, but never really a fan. But after this year's awards season, especially after this video, I think I am now.
  23. Maybe there will be an oscar boost in Japan. They really pay attention to the Oscars. Especially since Lee's win was kinda surprising. And it won the most oscars.
  24. That's the least number of best picture nominees with zero oscar win, since BP category was expanded.
