  1. Just saw MOS. I don't get its RT score, at all. Yes, it's not perfect, have some pace issues, the 2nd half could've been much better, but 57%?? That just doesn't make sense. It deserves better than FF6, and even IM3. Personally, it's one of my favorite superhero movies. It has emotions, stunning visuals, cool action scenes, I think it's what a Superman movie should be. People seem to love it too. Oh and I LOVE the score! That music and the image of Superman flying. Just perfect.
  2. Wow! That's huge, right? Good sign for other Asian countries.
  3. This opens tomorrow (Thurs) here. I cannot wait! To see the movie, and the OW number. I hope it's bigger than FF6.
  4. Maybe in China. But a lot of movies have late release dates in Japan, and they are still successful. Ted is the most resent example. It was released in Japan in January, 6 months after its US release. Grossed more than $40m and made Japan the 2nd biggest OS market for this movie.
  5. What?? Waaay higher than I thought after I saw its screen count. But if that's for 5 days then it's actually in line with my expectation before the release. Thursday was a holiday too, and many people took the day off on Friday, so it's basically a 4-day weekend, 5 if you count Wednesday. But with bad WOM and MOS just aroud the corner, it won't have legs.
  6. I think it will disappoint here. After Earth has less screen count than Now You See Me. That's really surprising and it's a bad sign. Usually movies with action and lots of special effects get the most screen count because we just love that kind of movies. Especially if they have big names as the lead actors. But the fact that NYSM, an unusual movie with less popular actors has more screens, shows that there's no interest and confidence in AE from the beginning. Maybe the screen count will increase on Friday, but judging from the quality if the movie, I'm not so sure about that.
  7. Actually Avatar did that in 2009-10. That was the exact year when the market started to grow quickly here. So at least in my country, Avatar was already in the era when the market was expanding. But yeah, the potential is there.
  8. STID is really disappointing here. I thought it could make at least 4 times what ST09 made, but it only made twice ST09's number. Release date is the main problem. It had good OW, but then it was crushed really bad in its 2nd weekend by FF6, which is probably gonna be the 2nd biggest movie of all time. STID will have less than 2x multiplier from its 5-day OW! It's sad, because the WOM is actually great, and people love it. But theater owners decided to give most of STID's screens to FF6, and gave it no chance to have legs.
  9. So BOM International section is finally updated, and it turns out that FF6 had the 2nd biggest OW of all time here, with $3.5m. IM3 still has the record. In 2 weeks, FF6 made $9.1m, much bigger than TA at the same point ($7.5m)! We will have the 3rd movie with more than $10m! And also it will probably outgross TA, to be the 2nd biggest movie of all time. Just crazy!
  10. My country is forgotten again . Indonesia : $15.3m. So it's 21 countries over $10m, not 20.
  11. BOM hasn't updated foreign grosses in some countries for other movies too since 2 weeks ago. I'm dying to know STID & FF6's grosses also IM3's latest number in my country and BOM is the only source for Hollywood movies.
  12. Are you trying to say that Hollywood movies are not as big as it used to be in early 2000s? That is true, but IM3 would not be a good example. That movie is actually doing really well. Before The Avengers, superhero movies were not a popular genre at all, except for Spider-Man, and maybe Batman. Oblivion won't do The Last Samurai's number, or even MI4's obviously, but I'm hoping it will be a solid hit. Tom Cruise is still one of the popular Hollywood actors in Japan I think. And there's no other big releases until, I don't know, Monster's University?
  13. The Hangover III, I think? It's big in English-speaking countries but it's already opened in UK, Australia & New Zealand. I don't know how big it's gonna be in other countries though.
  14. Judging by the screen count and number of sold-out shows this weekend, it's going to have a HUGE OW here. The line at the theater I went was crazy. It took 1 hour standing in the line until I got my tickets . They had 6 screens for FF6, and it looked like all of the shows were sold-out. I honestly think its OW could be close to IM3's, which is by far the biggest OW of all time. If that's true, with good WOM and no big competition until Man of Steel, a total over The Avengers (which was the highest grossing movie of all time, until IM3 broke the record) is possible. Having an Indonesian actor in the movie doesn't hurt either. Even if it's not that high, it will at least double or even triple Fast Five's number.
  15. Yes. Ghibli movies, especially those directed by Miyazaki are not only for family or kids. In Japan, they are the definition of four-quadrant movies.
  16. Where's Indonesia? It's already at $14.5M LAST weekend. LOL So it's 20 countries, not 19. And with Singapore and Venezuela to folllow hopefully, it will match TA, right?
  17. Here in Indonesia it opens tomorrow (Wednesday). It had sneak previews too though, but only midnight shows on Saturday. ST09 barely crossed $1m, so STID is gonna be much much bigger, at least 4 times what ST09 made, maybe 5 times. And considering how low the first movie's grosses were (in some countries where TF2 made $6m+, ST09 even failed to reach $1m), I think we'll see big increases from other Asian countries too.
  18. It's my favorite too! I lived in Japan back then and It was crazy, box office wise. Playing in the theaters like, forever. It was released in the middle of the summer, but I remember seeing it for the 3rd time in the theater on valentine's day, and it was an almost sold-out show! It's the movie that made me a Ghibli fan, especially Miyazaki's animations.
  19. Maybe they only report the $10m+ countries, and IM3 hasn't gotten there yet in Singapore. Judging from last week number, it's probably really close. Btw, $14.5m in Indonesia is higher than I thought! I know I said no competition for 3 weeks, but it turns out a local movie that was just released here surprised everyone, including me. Multiple screens in cineplex, long lines and sold out shows everywhere, It's stealing the buzz from IM3. Already the biggest local movie this year in just 4 days. It's a comedy based on a best selling book about the author's love life, starring himself. I should've known. Movies based on best selling books always succeed here. But apparently IM3 is still doing great. And considering it's already the biggest movie of all time by far, I'm still very happy.
  20. Yess! We have a new #1 all time grosser! Looks like the record is broken every year here lol. I kinda want TA to stay at #1, because I think it's a better movie than IM3. But I'm fine with it. TA2 will crush it anyway.
  21. Oh yeah, China too. Really amazed with its OS gross. Never thought it would make $700m+, or break records easily in my country.
  22. Hasn't IM3 already surpassed TA's gross in Malaysia too? According to BOM, TA made $10.9m and IM3 is at $11m. And I believe that is also an all time record. Next is Indonesia, only needs $450,000 more to pass TA. After that, the Philippines, Hong Kong, South Korea will follow. Any other countries where IM3 will make more than TA? How about Mexico and Brazil?
  23. Oops, I miscalculated the percentage lol. It IS pretty big. But it's the same as IM1 right? Well, nothing to worry about yet. Just a little below people's expectation.
