  1. If only HP was more popular in NA. I still almost puke at the fact that all but one Twilight film is on par with all but one HP movie in domestic BO. Btw, DH2 needed no help (not even minimal) to get to 1Bn. You see, it needed to increase less than 50m from DH1 to hit the mark, and it almost did that in Dom BO alone (in 2D $$, it would have done about 330-340m against DH1's 290m)
  2. I can't see this hit 1Bn. OS was only $280m for THG. To increase more than double OS is a very unrealistic expectation. I guess this can hit 800m, or even go close to 900m, which is extremely hard already. 1 Bn is far out.
  3. Same here. A question: What if there are very few films I saw from a specific year? Considering I might have watched only HP:OotP and Pirates 3 from 2007, should my vote be counted? (for example: I saw only 1 film from the following years: 1931- City Lights, 1941- Citizen Kane, 1942- Casablanca, 1954-Rear WIndow, 1960- Psycho)
  4. Meh, very bad week for me. Took a few risks, none paid off.
  5. Pacific Rim benefited from being a bit of a Transformers look-alike, which are immensely popular in China. Add to that the fact that they had an Asian leading actress and that a significant portion of the movie took place in Hong Kong. Gravity has none of these to go with, only its quality. (are SaBu and Clooney draws in China? I don't know)

  7. No, slim chance though. Needs to increase about 180% from thursday after thursday gets a slight increase. I am guessing 9.5 is more probable than 8.5.
  8. Yeah, looks like a strong possibility. 30% drops in 3rd and 4th weekend. Might go higher, though.
  9. I think from this Wed: 3.5 Wed 3.6 Thu 9.5 Fri 13.1 Sat 8.0 Sun 2.4 Mon 2.6 Tue 2.4 Wed 2.4 Thu 3rd weekend is about 30.6M, though it can do better. A 20+M 4th weekend means it will cross $200M on Sun of 4th weekend (24 days).
  10. The film whose run Gravity's most closely resemble is The Departed. The Departed's Sun-Tue drop was 66.2% (with average Sun-Mon and Mon-Tue drops). Gravity's Sun-Tue drop is 67% (excellent Sun-Mon drop, harsh Mon-Tue drop). So, I don't think there's anything to be worried about.
  11. So, they overestimated Sunday. Friday and Saturday are pretty close to previous estimates.
  12. Ooops....its my second language, so I think I can be forgiven for mistakenly thinking 'ups' in 'ups and downs' means 'better' when its actually 'good'.
  13. Weren't every film he made was worse than the previous ones, and the only up was like after he directed TLA (after which, getting lower was as difficult as creating a masterpiece)?
  14. Ok, lets complicate things a bit, shall we? Draw a graph, with OW at x-axis and multiplier on y-axis. After you have done plotting, draw iso-awesomeness lines (contour lines, lines joining all points having some constant value, in this case awesomeness of the movie). As for example, if you think Avatar and Titanic are equally awesome, then you should join the two points representing those two films (77M,10x) and (28M, 22x). Lets see what happens next.
  15. Oh, I forgot the 50M part. Wasn't Titanic like the 2nd highest OW when it opened or sth like that? Edit: Ok that was for Dec.
  16. We can basically add more restrictions until Gravity is the only movie that fits.
  17. Hmm, yet to see gravity. Cried during: Titanic Schindler's List There must be a few more, but I can't remember at the moment.
