  1. Elfman talks about the score a bit here. Be warned that he lowkey gives away a big spoiler. Main takeaway is that he was asked to write a 'retro horror' score. Hoping for some Sleepy Hollow vibes. https://pitchfork.com/thepitch/superhero-movie-scores-in-the-age-of-the-antihero/
  2. I do love Bruce Campbell. I do. His performance in Evil Dead 2 is a masterclass in physical acting. But I don't...get it? There's always so much discourse about who he's going to play when his last roles in Raimi flicks were Guard/Waiter/Usher/Announcer. He's always a blast in his small roles, but people make so much out of so little. Dude popped up on the Doctor Strange 2 set for two days to film his cameo as 'Drunk Wedding Guest' and then left to go to his 281684th con to tell the same stories to the same people who have heard them 100 times before. The worship is so bizarre to me.
  3. Raimi told Spider-Man and Green Goblin's origins in like 25 minutes, and at the same time he introduced several other main characters. Here he has to introduce Chavez and...that's it. And introducing Chavez involves explaining the multiverse, which is what Wanda is after. The more we hear from this movie the more simple it seems. A chase through the multiverse with a cameo detour along the way. This couldn't be less of an issue. I bet the movie is still too long.
  4. Honestly, I couldn't care less if I never saw Pattinson or Kravitz in these roles again. I'd happily revisit Gotham, but I really wasn't slightly invested or connected to anything that happened. It feels so empty to me. Incidentally, I had the same disconnect from War for the Planet of the Apes, despite loving the first two movies in that franchise.
  5. Remember when Derrickson argued that there was no way to depict The Ancient One in a non-offensive way in the same movie in which they made Wong, a viciously racist stereotype in the comics, an instant audience favourite through...not writing him as a racist stereotype? Good times.
  6. One of us! Raimi is a Wong stan, too. “At the same time, I had to become aware of the Avengers lore and where the whole Marvel universe was, where Wong's character was and what the state of the universe was after Thanos.” Doctor Strange 2 Director Needed to Study Thanos & More MCU Plotlines (thedirect.com) Raimi literally reading the Wikipedia pages for the other MCU movies just so he can do his boy justice.
  7. A disaster to be sure, but the Saturns had the taste to nominate Raimi for director for Spider-Man 3. I can't ignore that, and I won't ignore that.
  8. I'd give my liver to see footage of Raimi timidly approaching Hackman to ask him to strap a big ass camera to his body only to be told to fuck off. Big Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey energy.
  9. It's all gossip of course, but there were very frequent reports of Taika popping up in Australian bars and being an absolute mess during filming. Apparently staff dreaded him entering and this was always on work nights. This also marries up with the rumours that he's flat-out not welcome in New Zealand anymore and the disaster that was the Met Gala which he's now apparently banned from. Again, it's all gossip, but it's all coming from different sources and saying the same thing.
  10. The trailer is fine but the two runs that this is based on are so great (and seemingly incongruous nnnnnnnn) that I'm still really excited.
  11. Quick and the Dead is kinda awesome and kinda bad at the same time. Very entertaining, but Raimi's style is sometimes at odds with what the movie wants to be.
  12. The treatment of Leta is so utterly meanspirited that it's genuinely uncomfortable to watch. Awful.
  13. I work with someone who lives and breathes Potter. We got tattoos two weeks ago and she got a Potter one. She had no idea Fantastic Beasts 3 was out here yesterday until I asked her if she was going. I think a large section of the Potter fanbase have simply shrugged these movies off - not due to controversies (she really couldn't care less), but due to not being grabbed by them.
  14. The green screen is shocking in this movie. I was rewatching No Way Home and it was terrible there, too, but here it's actively distracting since the movie is trying to be a travelogue.
  15. I'm rewatching A Simple Plan, and even though I've seen it a dozen times, that tape recorder scene is still absolutely agonising. i love that Raimi is directing a wild Marvel romp, I love that he's apparently following it up with a desert-island set horror....I just want him to keep making movies. This 9 year wait has been hateful. No matter how this turns out, I just hope its inevitable success allows him to keep working.
  16. The second trailer made it seem like a relatively simple story: Wanda chases Strange and Chavez through the multiverse. The cameos here are going to be just that - cameos.
