  2. He is way more than well known in UK and parts of Europe Like Dong-seok Ma or is it Ma Dong-seok: The discussions started on my side for jumping in my POV unneeded on a poster without asking for a definition.
  3. I think one of many reasons MCO got big, is that they cast a lot of people with ~ a name. What differs is, for what the name stands for. and where, partly when. Like e.g. to cast an Asian star or whatever. Or TV-series, or awards / indie films.... It does bring audience in to a mostly very small degree as a reason, to watch a certain actor/actress, but helps with general awareness. And acceptance. As they do a pretty good mix, the sum is more important than every single one of them. And still, that's only a part of their success
  4. Won GG for it. Also e.g. European Awards Again, no one said movie star, nor US star nor.... Not calling him star neither, but as there was no definition, cult I think applies, and TV maybe too
  5. depends on famous to whom / for what.... As said, for me the posts were mostly about not every star has to be a Hollywood movie star if not defined as such, no reason to jump on whoever wrote the first post Richard Madden, most recently and as such maybe in more's people awareness than an older award thingie: Golden Globes, USA 2019 Winner Golden Globe Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series - Drama Bodyguard (2018)
  6. Again: in your opinion. Beside, only bcs something is loosing % doesn't make it non-existent Why should a 16y back nom not count? She made a name for herself with that movie (and others) Are you even aware about GA, members here,.... are old enough to have seen it as it got released? And/or followed then the awards? Do we have to delete our brains for those kind of impressions to conform your POV? (sarcasm) And again, cult counts too. Its all a question of definition. No one bothered to ask for one before jumping on the member, that is, what's here about on my side. = in the end it was not defined which kind of star. Hollywood movie star is only one of many many possibilities. And even with them, depends a lot how old someone is, into which genre someone is most interested in and in which region or even country someone lives in. As an example: I wouldn't know the vast majority of the young actors, or romantic roles actors or... But if even I, who usually doesn't watch movies with teen or YA actors as leads, am getting aware of one of those, he/she is usually on a steep curve on the way to stardom. Does not mean a person I do not know isn't a star to a big part of the audience.
  7. Not a star in the usual meaning, but a kind of 'star' for handicapped ppl to a degree https://www.imdb.com/name/nm4248765/?ref_=nv_sr_1?ref_=nv_sr_1 I think the whole star thing is BS anyway, yes, not all are stars like the term gets used by many, but they are 'names' to enough ppl to not discount them in the way it happened here. It started bcs someone said all star.... No one asked for how that was meant, reactions were way too immediately jump on that person, and in my POV way too dismissive, ignoring other definitions totally.
  8. Wow.... Interesting to see how younger ppl are not aware at all how famous an artist can be for another generation or group.... Or miss non-US impact Btw, she did 'open' (as I understand the term). Cult counts too.... Are ppl even aware about how many people follow the awards also?
  9. Angelina Jolie you didn't question at least. I see your reaction as a bit ignorant - in the writing style, and in the knowledge Might be an age or region thingie, but Salma Hayek is a big name. Plus she too is an Oscar nominee (Frida), also a cult film star (Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn) Who doesn't know The snake dance? Usually I's not list that kind of background, but hey, that big cult.... Richard Madden is a Golden Globe winner (for Bodyguard), and even me, who didn't watch GoT yet, know about Robb Stark (GoT) Kumail Nanjiani is an Oscar nominee and he too has made quite a name for himself Brian Tyree Henry got a lot of recent reactions, noms and so on, in especial multi noms for work released in 2018: add Atlanta too Reactions here and in the outlets let me assume he is in the minds of rather a lot of ppl, at least enough to allow for 'breakthrough' star status Who doesn't know Dong-seok Ma? Lauren Ridloff is probably not a star to the GA yet, but as a actress who is feaf in RL to get where she is.... plus she is the first handicapped RL and character in an MCU movie, I guess that will make her being a star for parts of the audience already. A star can be someone the US GA isn't aware, US isn't the only country on earth
  10. also confirmed: 'Mutants' in the work (with mutants or called as sich, we will see)

  14. What some people here seem to forget too often: A prediction is usually based on assumptions like average for a certain genre or franchise, based on a minimum of critic and or audience reception, average weather conditions for the release date, typical for the genre.... gender / age split, and such. As earlier as less details are known about how much the details will match. Predictions can be based on excellent models, but if only one detail is not a match, the impact on the result can be small to huge. So if a movie does make more or less than some 'predicted', and matches more another POVs prediction = does not always mean one was better than the other based on models, only that the sum of the details landed nearer to one group. = no need for overreactions, down-speaking, arrogance and so on.... Same counts for very early predictions of e.g. Charlie and so on: as earlier as rougher, as earlier as less know reaction details, as earlier as more prone to e.g. WOM based changes and so on. Pattern only work for average situations, never for outlier nor in another way not 100% average projects Again, no need for snide remarks and such.

  16. I do not like such kind of titles in general, and even less at times of already IMHO too destructive moods I often feel like certain pp think all should feel the same about their style, ignoring that at least some come here to actually enjoy a snark-free presentation of numbers, news about release dates, theatre counts and such.
  17. In my opinion a post using generalizing formulations to down-speak on people who watch other movies as you'd like without even adding 'in my opinion' or similar is judgemental at best. In a way those kind of post criticise others for their ~ simplified taste, using wordings at least as simplifying the situations as they lament about. What cinema should be and what not is a purely one-person opinion, varying very much it seems. What kind of movies even allow cinema movies to still get made cinemas to survive,.... is too often misused to make oneself better per making other less appearing. ~ 900 movies per year nowadays instead of 150 like at times way more people went to cinemas have nothing to do the big ones earning big (sarcasm), only to give one example why certain posts here are simply too..... simple Btw, I have no interest at all into TLK and similar movies (neither the original nor the remakes), but I do have a strong interest the wordings here in general get back to an enjoyable style.
