  1. Funny detail about assumptions and such... so just in case you think otherwise / serious: I don't watch animated nor remakes from animated, also 99%+ of all the musical I'll pass on = even per TV..... I follow ww BO, but never even look into details if its animated based and others = I have no opinion about what's more beloved and whatnot, I do not care. I do care about balanced reporting and reactions, I do not care about overreactions and worse This weekend seem sadly to be another one with over the top reactions by some Happily some at least are here that show balanced reactions too 😉
  2. Agree, there are lots of years / distributor combis that ran with ~ 3% +/- too. Or even went into the reds, especially of an expensive movie bombed
  3. But no one knows how far GA's WoM will match or differ from the per average calculation models usually all those predictions.... are based on. Its still only an idea about how a certain version is seen. Plus: how much might a re-release only 8y before even have satisfied certain parts of the GA appetite for that particular story?
  4. Disney sets record for highest-grossing year for a studio with five months to spare https://edition.cnn.com/2019/07/28/media/disney-box-office-record-year/index.html edit: put part in spoiler tags as a bit long
  5. Wasn't it said CBMs are on a downwards route? Like dying.... Can't remember the exact wordings...... (its a joke)
  6. Its OT, but the amount does surprise me: Exhibitor Relations Co.‏ @ERCboxoffice 2 hours ago More Amazon is dropping an estimated $1 billion on the LORD OF THE RINGS TV series prequel—easily the most expensive endeavor in the history of television. They do know there’s like 5 GAME OF THRONES spinoffs, right? I just hope we’ll all still have free shipping if this tanks...
  7. InsideKino‏ @MarkGInsideKino 54 minutes ago More Am Freitag haben die 23 Filme der Infinity War-Saga des Marvel Cinematic Universe (Phase I-III) in Deutschland die 37,5 Mio. Besucher-Marke (€395 Mio. Box Office) erreicht... 😉
  8. Wasn't PotC in the news for a still too high budget, like something with the numbers exchanged = $320m? I mean way better than On Stranger Tides' budget of $410.6m / $378.5m net, but still higher than...???
  9. you can fly rather cheap also from or to UK or between other European countries, it all depends on the time of day and weekday and... And if you think the US has diverse and lots of regulation / hurdles.... I guess you missed a lot of the European details 😉
  10. What was said was not wrong, just not complete. I guess as its something all here already (should) know: a well made movie will appeal to audience actually interested into the story it tells If made in a g#great way it may pull in additional audience (e.g. per accompanying partners or friends...) but the story has to appeal to the broad GA to get to the extremer results
  11. Bcs lots of times they did a new to the cinema world project they got a really big bomb? A few of the worst financial bombs (high budget, low BO) are Disney movies
  12. No, but everyone who reacts to each and every news posted all over BOT in an anti whatever Disney does, seems to be. Especially if wording it like what they do is something only they do, ignoring all in the business do the same. And even twisting details to something else = that makes it very tiresome at best
  13. maybe they think they can ride on the AEG hype - like use something a bit atypical (for a reason) to help their advertising? Its the only time-near thing I am aware of that might have given the idea?
  14. It was to me, but not BO wise, that was and is simply interesting to follow, as I do not care who is #1 or #2.
  15. To me its 1. is it representing the character like in the comics (not totally, but at least the gist) or are only a few details to recognise, the story only very loosely connected. LaurenceBrolivier listed quite some points why I'd not add Blade as such If its only a few points... see 2. 2. I look for what is the main Genre, the first genre I'd name if someone would ask me to describe a movie / its genres. Like sometimes a story gets changed so much, its now e.g. a horror movie first, and a CBM only as a lower weighted genre. If in my POV CBM is lets say only on #3 or lower, I'd not even think for a second about it as a CBM 3a Source material is for me only relevant if the source material is still ~ there, like e.g all Matt Damon Bourne movies are great spy-action movies, but not Bourne movies at all, as the essence of the books is absent, even does mostly the opposite of what made the books so unique. The only Bourne movie I'd call so, is Bourne Legacy, as it gets the gist of the books, beside the main character not even be The name giving character of the series. 3b If a CBM is about a SH (implied e.g. per title...), and then the movie drifts away from that SH character, depending on how much, then that too can loose the CBM categorisation for me.
  16. Nearly forgot why I entered here For the interested, or as a maybe help to remember or... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_based_on_comics (lots of countries) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_based_on_English-language_comics https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_based_on_French-language_comics https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_films_based_on_manga
  17. I love Blade, but for me its not a CBM in the meaning how I'd define a CBM. Not everything based on a CB ends as a CBM. Same counts for other movies / franchises too, sadly. Just my 2ct
  18. Is that already known here? Paul Dergarabedian‏ @PDergarabedian 1h1 hour ago More Update! #ComscoreMovies's #PostTrak audience survey for @SonyPictures #OnceUponATimeInHollywood - 48% cited their primary reason for seeing the film was director #QuentinTarantino, the norm for this metric is just 7%! @OnceinHollywood @QuenTarantino @Comscore #Tarantino Paul Dergarabedian‏ @PDergarabedian 56m56 minutes ago More Update! #ComscoreMovies's #PostTrak audience survey for #QuentinTarantino's #OnceUponATimeInHollywood - 2nd biggest reason for seeing the film, "The cast as a whole" came in at 39%, the norm is 18%. @LeoDiCaprio @MargotRobbie #BradPitt @OnceInHollywood @Comscore @QuenTarantino
  19. I am face-blind.... but that has to be Stephanie Romanov as Lilah Morgan who actually speaks those words.
  20. MCU pushed the ww BO every year, and even in 2013, as it was still a newish thing, 2 MCU titles are already in the top 10 beside Thor 2 being a rather weak movie (means with it being a better movie as it is, I think the # would have been higher). Collapse... not totally, but a decrease for a time I too think is quite possible In a lot of countries there is a tendency to go less often into a cinema (again). Out of those who never go or seldom go, there are quite some that go and watch e.g. the MCU team ups, but nothing else. I had quite some heated discussions with my pupils (I teach e.g. media at school) about that, as I try to get some of those to get interested into other kind of movies as well. Lots of those watch movies only on their smartphones even (shudder). A lot of movies only get an alarmingly low young audience split for a reason, even the big event ones usually get way more adults audience, depending on which movie, the grandparents age reaching a far bigger part than the children and teens together. I see the same with certain older people I know, who do not go that often to a cinema (like having a rather good home theatre and less interest to drive somewhere for...) That includes to a degree myself, I have to drive quite a long way to get to see a movie in a good quality cinema, the most movies of today can be watched at home as well as in a cinema, sometimes even better, depending on the quality of the cinema (if you have access to a good equipped home theatre), Like what kind of visuals or.. are even a reason to still watch a movie in a cinema. To me its e.g. space, vast landscapes like often to see e.g. in old western, fast races through a city or wherever,.... added to an interesting or otherwise compelling story... yes, for that I'll spend a half day to watch it in a cinema. But I can see 3 movies at home for way less money in that time too..... and as I am not one who needs to see all at their release dates.... at home I have a lot more titles I can chose from, which title might tickle my fancy. Or pick a classic movie I also love to watch and so on. I think the MCu helps to a degree to let certain people not forget about cinema even more (as do all movies with a good audience reaction), also whilst watching there a movie the trailers have a way bigger impact as seen with a bigger focus and per people potentially going to a cinema, than as one of many clips at a TV.. = I can understand the POV of members here thinking so. Its all a question of wording, how absolute to word such kind of statements.
  21. That's a strange way to twists 2013 ww top 10. Frozen and Gravity were the only ones based on new material, even Monster University was a part 2 IM3 followed the Avengers success, Man of Steel was the first - and highly discussed/buzzed about - entry of WBs answer to the MCU, and I guess no one will say its based on a new material anyway. Part 2 or 3 or even a part 6 of either already established franchises or in parts also based on successful book series too
