Alien: Covenant (2017)
jb007 replied to Dementeleus's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
Decent movie with fast, fiery monsters. The human cast is pretty much worthless but for Fassbender. No where close to Alien or Aliens. About the level of Alien Resurrection. B- -

That would be awesome. It is great to see a high quality movie like Dangal do this well in China. -

That seems to happen a lot with Hrithik Roshan movies. I have heard that Rajesh Roshan was responsible for the fudge. You are right in that Bollywood seems to have its act together for the most part. -

A big fudge, no doubt. These guys, I don't mean just Baahubali team, the film producer/Distributor community and some brokers just report fake numbers. These fake grosses are used to sell movies to local distributors. The other reason for the fudge is to please the fans of various heroes who essentially duke it out online with fake numbers. -

These are never officially released by the producer/distributor. So they cleverly release these exaggerated grosses through media outlets, which they will deny come tax time and quote a much lower gross. That is standard operating practice in Indian film industry. Bollywood has gotten a lot better with the advent of Hollywood studious into India. The southern film industries grosses are filled with massive exaggerations. -

Baahubali 1 & 2 movie box office grosses are exaggerated. They will make sure BB2 will remain no.1. My partner (in my second movie) bought distribution rights to Baahubali 1 for Karnataka State. While the trades and paid media were reporting bogus grosses of Rs. 79 crores in Karnataka, the actual was Rs. 43 Crores. So, the only Bahubali 2 grosses that are trustworthy are the ones tracked by Rentrak locations like USA, Australia, UK etc. -

Wow. Dangal's Monday running total is at 2/3rds of GOTG2. May drop only around 40&% from Sunday. Amazing. -

Facts are facts. 7.47 Yuan is not "Striking Gold". It is more like picking up pieces of garbage from the pile. For all the boasting by the paid media regarding Baahubali, it was a certified disaster. -

No doubt. Indian media operates on pay per article basis and are completely biased often posting outright lies to promote the agenda of the government. -

Baahubali was an abysmal failure in China. Some in the indian media were projecting this as striking gold. https://www.google.co.in/amp/amp.ibtimes.co.in/baahubali-bahubali-china-box-office-collection-ss-rajamoulis-film-strikes-gold-chinese-market-687690 -
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2 (2017)
jb007 replied to Dementeleus's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
Excellent movie. Loved the humor. Yondu scene at the end is touching. Even in the first one, you could sense that he loved Peter as a son. A -
Probably 5 to 6 times its "True" OD. The Nizam/Andhra Nett is being reported as Rs. 45 Crores. That would mean about a Rs. 55 Crore gross (15% Entertainment tax). The cost of multiplex tickets are about 150 and Single screens average less than Rs. 70. The overall Average maybe Rs. 75. That would mean it sold about 7.5 Million tickets on OD from just 2 states. I have my doubts.

Surprisingly, I liked it. Alec Baldwin was superb. B+

She was excellent, probably the best part of the movie.

Fate of the Furious (aka Furious 8) (2017)
jb007 replied to Dementeleus's topic in Review That Movie! (Spoilers Allowed)
Highly entertaining. The action is spectacular as one would expect especially the New York car chase & action on ice. It is better than 6 and 7. Charlize Theron turns in a strong scary villain performance. Paul Walker not being there changes the tone of the movie. B+ -
Highly entertaining. Should be a big crowd pleaser. Action is spectacular. Liked it better than 6 and 7 but for Paul.

It may do it, but barely so. The post was to underscore that The Last Jedi is in a completely different level than BatB. -

The real question should be, Will BatB outgross Rogue One? -
One of the best pure entertainers. I watched it with no prior information. I loved it. Paul Hogan was perfect. This has tremendous repeat value. Must have watched it over 50 times in the last 30 years. A true classic in its own right. Its run was spectacular to say the least. Agree with others that this was a true phenomenon.

Fantastic movie. A fitting send off to Hugh Jackman. One of the best SH movies there is though it hardly feels like a SH movie. Great performance by Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart. Daphne Keen is superb. Perfect end to an awesome character. A

Loved it. It is an all out action extravaganza. Exactly what a monster movie needs to be. Nothing more, nothing less. A- -
They had preview shows on Thursday only at select locations. They did not have those in Waterloo, Iowa.
-
I watched it Waterloo, Iowa Crossroads 10 theater on June 12, 1993. What a ride it was. The audience reaction was phenomenal. I watched it 11 times in the theater during its original run. The interesting part was it was a full house all 11 times. Most of my visits were in the weekend. I will always equate Jurassic Park to a sold out show. The lines for this movie even in the 4th and 5th weekends were spectacular. This was a pre-internet movie though AOL, Compuserve and Prodigy had started offering services at about the same time. The run was phenomenal to say the least and personally most memorable for me since it was my first experience of a $300m+ grosser in the US. During 1977 Star Wars and E.T., I used to live in India. In terms of crowds i have personally witnessed, only The Phantom Menace comes close. I watched it for the 12th time in the theater during its 3D rerelease.

I loved the movie. It knocked a rampaging Jurassic Park out of first place over the 4th of July weekend. It had a superb run. I used to live in Iowa when this was released. 1993 summer was quite good.
