  1. I compared to JL because before the JL failure, who would had thought that a B-character could beat the whole team film by maybe 450 million... I said it just because the data seems a joke. If we talk about the whole genre, we can say this: * Aquaman is the biggest start OS for a single SH. * Aquaman is the second biggest start WW for a single SH, just behind Black Panther. And please, do not take each post as if someone tries to start another boring-as-hell war between brands. In my case, and although I enjoy both Marvel and DC, I prefer DC by a mile.
  2. So, after this weekend, Aquaman OS > Justice League WW. Who would had thought this some years (or weeks) ago...
  3. Sure, there are attractive films during 2019. But it is quite surprising to me that a 83 million country and the biggest economy of Europe sells so few tickets (a bit over 1 ticket per person and year). Do prevail some other leisure time activities? or it is just that people prefer to consume movies at home?
  4. Sure, those can be valid reasons. But we are talking about the lowest figure since there are available data (according InsideKino). Germany had always sold, at very least, 100 million admissions, and over 120 million every year since 1992. This is a dramatic drop.
  5. December 28th-30th Many rises along the list. And we will see strong data this upcoming weekend, with holidays until Monday included in several regions. I said possible final figures for some films last week and it confirms that I have too much to learn about Spain BO... I said that Aquaman would compete to match Venom or Deadpool (€9.5m), but it is making well over it. Maybe 12-13 million. Mary Poppins increases and it should keep numbers this weekend. I said 7-8 million, but I think it already should try 10 million. Who knows if more. Ralph 2 is outgrossing its predecessor (€9.7m) and maybe trying to outgross Hotel Transylvania 3 (€13.4m) as the second biggest animated film of the year (behind Incredibles) Superlópez keeps holding very well. It could try €13m. Last week I had Bohemian Rhapsody making €22m in total. One week later it has already done it... I think it is locked to beat Jurassic World 2 as the biggest film of 2018 and maybe try €25m. The all time list is: ... 16. A Monster calls: €26.15m 17. The Orphanage: €25.06m 18. Toy Story 3: €24.99m 19. Up: €24.92m 20. The Phantom Menace: €24.50m 21. Minions: €24.43m 22. Jurassic World 2: €24.22m ... I think BR can land somewhere between A Monster Calls and JW2. We'll see if it can go beyond that...
  6. Interesting for sure. Thank you very much And yes, it is what Olive is looking for. I have just posted some of these data. I have not time now, but I will complete the post tomorrow with the ranking by admissions.
  7. Spain (thank you to @terrestrial) Provisional data (Source: comScore) €585.7m euros (€597m in 2017) 97.7 million admissions (99.7 million in 2017) Local market share: 17.5% (17.1% in 2017) It is a 2% drop relative to 2017 Biggest films of the year: 1. Fantastic Beasts 2: €10,875,789 (1,715,434) 10. The Nun: €10,623,860 (1,756,515)
  8. It says: * €585.7m grossed and 97.7 million admissions sold during 2018 (provisional data) * After growing during 2014. 2015 and 2016 and holding flat in 2017, tickets and gross have dropped about a 2% in 2018. * First half of the year: 46.2 million admissions (-3.9% relative to 2017) * Second half of the year: 51.4 million admissions (-0.2%) * Local films get a 17.5% market share * Jurassic World is the biggest film of the year and Campeones is the biggest local film of the year * 58% of the admissions were sold during weekends and 42% during weekdays * Saturday is the biggest day of the week: 23.4 million admissions * Wednesday (discount tickets), is the second biggest day of the week: 18.8 million admissions * 27-29th April was the biggest weekend combined: €11.2m and 1.6 million admissions (Infinity War opening) * Jurassic World did the biggest OW: €7.1m Ranking by % admissions and provinces (Spain has 50 provinces): 1. Madrid: 19.5% of admissions 2. Barcelona: 13.7% 3. Valencia: 6.3% 4. Alicante: 4.1% 5. Sevilla: 3.74% 6. Málaga: 3.68% 7. Murcia: 3.09% 8. Baleares: 2.79% 9. Las Palmas: 2.71% 10. Cádiz: 2.54% Biggest films of the year: 1. Jurassic World: €24,223,178 2. Bohemian Rhapsody: €22,101,541 3. Incredibles 2: €21,147,043 4. Infinity War: €20,503,973 5. Campeones: €19,090,258 6. Hotel Transylvania 3: €13,441,006 7. 50 shades freed: €12,227,376 8. Megalodon: €11,018,823 9. Fantastic Beasts 2: €10,875,789 10. The Nun: €10,623,860
  9. You do not need to justify yourself or your tastes. Some people react in this way when their movies are unexpectedly outgrossed.
  10. It is remarkable because Aquaman opened by nearly double than Mary Poppins. And I still would not bet on Aquaman grossing more than MPR at the end of their respective runs.
  11. Bohemian Rhapsody is at $25.2m, what means nearly €22m. According BR OS thread it has jumped a 27% this weekend, what would mean a €720k weekend and about €1.3m week. There are still holidays along whole upcoming week. Suddenly, to beat Jurassic World 2 (€24m) as the biggest film of the year in Spain is likely....
  12. The run of the year. Over Infinity War WW or Black Panther DOM. And one of the most impressive ever. I do not know if people are really conscious of how absurd sounds that a film of this genre is able to manage +700. And I think we should start to talk about the chance of making $800m WW and $600m OS WITHOUT China...
  13. December 21st-23th: Aquaman has opened a bit lower than some other SH films of this year like Deadpool 2 (€3.3m), Venom (€3.1m). But Christmas will help it to match them, or even outgross both, which did about €9.5m. Mary Poppins is lower than I had expected. It is obvious that in this case we can not look at the adjusted figures to extrapolate a big success (the original sold 5 million admissions and ranks #35 in the all time adjusted. Times change). Anyway, I guess that it can make decent figures through the holidays (we have holidays in Spain until Jan 6th, and even Monday 7th in some regions this year). I think we could see 7-8 million at the end, maybe a bit more. It is hard to predict with so many holidays. Bohemian Rhapsody has again another great drop facing 3 wide releases. It has already outgrossed Infinity War, and by next Sunday it should be over Incredibles 2, just behind JW2 in 2018. €22m are probable, what would mean to reach Jurassic World 1 and Beauty and the Beast (2017), and ranking about #35. Spider-Verse disappoints like in other countries. Maybe €3m total. Superlópez, local SH based on a local comic, keeps making big numbers. It seems headed to be the 3rd biggest SH film of the year, just behind Incredibles 2 and Infinity War. And 2nd biggest local film of the year, behind Campeones. Heading to €11m.
  14. It is not useless. It shows the trends, as you well say. If you want, keep posting them
  15. There are not available data yet. Maybe tomorrow or on Thursday we can know something if the film has ranked among the top 25. On the other side, holidays make everything go slower... As soon as there is info, I will post it here.
  16. Mary Poppins Returns has done $1.4m according MPR OS thread. Very close to my prediction...
  17. I am HORRIBLE predicting. But I think Poppins will win the weekend. Let's say: Poppins: €3.5m Aquaman: €3m SpiderVerse: €1.2m
  18. Of course!! All data are useful. Welcome to the forums
  19. I will not do any bet. Just saying it is hard to make $900m in a single market.
  20. I have doubts about Avatar too. I do not deny it will make tons of money, and it will probably become the biggest HLW film in China. But to talk about reaching WW2 is another level.
  21. In Spain, it has grossed €0.6m this weekend, what means a 50% drop (it came from a holiday weekend), the first big drop of the film.
  22. Just to compare: Wonder Woman OW (according BOM): Mexico: $8.2m Brazil: $7.4m Russia: $4.0m U.K.: $8.0m Thailand: $1.7m In these 5 countries: Aquaman $33.0m vs Wonder Woman $29.3m (+12.6%) There are not data for the other countries in BOM about the OW. Wonder Woman did $319m without China.
