  1. Among my top 10, I do not trust in seeing The Apartment, A night at the opera and Fantasia. There are already 3 (Rear window, E.T and Spirited Away) and the other 4 should be here (Casablanca, Godfather I and II and FOTR). If they are not, I will give up my faith in human race.
  2. I have revised the first 4-5 pages of the lists thread and it had already reached more points than #100 (Lebowski, 25), so unless people suddenly changed their tastes, Casablanca will appear in the list
  3. The problem with these comparisons is that these webs (Gewara, Maoyan, ...) tracks more screens every passing day. It is to compare apples and oranges. Anyway, presales seem gigantic.
  4. Apocalypse Now, incredible war film. In my list. Both Incredibles and Toy Story 3, great animated films, but not my favorites. Anyway, I can understand why people prefer them instead others. Groundhog Day ranks #22 in my list. I see at least once a year. Or when I have a bad moment. It always makes me smile (and laugh). It is very similar to It's a wonderful life but, IMO, way better. Amazing film. WALL-E is one of my favorite animated films. The first half is astonishing. That little robot can make you smile or cry with more conviction than many real actors. And E.T... it is in my top 10. My childhood film.
  5. Top 5 Weekend (Provisional - Source: Rentrak) 1. X-Men: Apocalypse: €1.6m 2. Angry birds: €0.9m 3. Jungle Book: €0.4m 4. Civil War: €0.3m 5. The Witch: €0.3m Apocalypse opens a 22% lower than Days of Future Past (€2.06m). DOFP finished with €6.7m and 1.137m admissions. Applying a similar multiplier, Apocalypse could be headed to a bit over €5m, but with bad critics it could even fail reaching that amount. Angry birds drops nearly 50%. Very forgettable drop. Maybe €6m final. Jungle Book is already over €15m and Civil War over €9m.

  9. Sure. I say it because there are some people who tend to use ALWAYS dollars when they talk about international figures and I think it has to be remembered sometimes. That's all.
  10. Really glad to see Spirited Away (in my top 10) and Batman Begins. Surprised and glad with Holy Grail being here. Up is not the best Pixar (I have not voted for it), but its first 10 minutes are INCREDIBLE. ROTJ is the Godfather 3 of Star Wars: the weakest of the original trilogy, but still a great film. I can understand the suspicion towards Inglourious Basterds: it is a Tarantino madness (the final act is our desired ending for the War). I think both Waltz and Pitt are great there. Not in my top 100, but really enjoyable.
  11. Thank you for the explanation. With a 6.8-7.0 ER range, The Mermaid, for instance, would had done 484-498, talking in dollars. That means 20-35 million less than the real gross. It is better to keep talking about yuans instead dollars before talking about possible hits/disappointments.
  12. I guess that if an animated film has better midnights figures than a fan film, then Angry birds figure is very good or Allegiant figure is very bad, isn't it?
  13. It will lose by the end of the year, but yes, for the moment China wins. Anyway, I prefer to see what China did last year to compare since there is still a considerable difference between both countries. During the whole 2015, there were 8 films over 1 billion Yuan. For the moment, there are already 6 in 2016...
  14. My breakdown by decades: 20s: 1 30s: 6 40s: 13 50s: 12 60s: 14 70s: 13 80s: 13 90s: 15 00s: 11 10s: 2
  15. Glad you liked it. For me, it is the best film ever. People should give more chances to old films. They do not bite.
  16. I have noticed that Yuan is dropping more than usual during last days. Must we expect this trend to follow or is it something conjunctural?
  17. For sure. It is the lowest grosser since Law of desire (1987). Of course, that movie sold much more admissions taking into account 29 years of inflation. These are his films since then. The highest grosser is "Volver" (2006) and the most attended is "Women on the verge..." (1988): Law of desire (1987): €1.45m (780,568 admissions) Women on the verge of a nervous breakdown (1988): €7.02m (3,347,636) Tie me up! tie me down! (1990): €3.13m (1,351,732) High heels (1991): €5.23m (2,072,921) Kika (1993): €3.04m (1,037,808) The flower of my secret (1995): €3.20m (981,750) Live flesh (1997): €4.99m (1,433,397) All about my mother (1999): €9.96m (2,590,471) Talk to her (2002): €6.21m (1,367,454) Bad education (2004): €6.11m (1,241,637) Volver (2006): €10.24m (1,931,887) Broken embraces (2009): €4.17m (696,622) The skin I live in (2011): €4.65m (735,189) I am so excited (2013): €5.07m (714,247) I do not know how many admissions have Julieta sold until now, but applying the average ticket price (€6.1) we would have about 327,000.
  18. I have the same feeling: maybe it is not a masterpiece, but I enjoyed A LOT Guardians of the Galaxy. It remains to be my favorite MCU film.

  20. I expected to see both Psycho and Last Crusade, but to see Heat is great and more unexpected for me. The shooting at the bank remains to be the best ever made. The three films are on my list
