  1. The feeling of animadversion towards USA was way bigger with Bush. Since Obama is president, that feeling has obviously decreased (the statistics of @Fullbuster are very clear in that sense). Said this, that feeling will always exist. To be the most powerful country in the world generates this kind of reactions.
  2. Not good at math and very vague https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=70-55%2B8%2C5
  3. Relative to Spanish release, the football match previously set on Saturday will finally be played on Monday, so the OW will not be damaged by this event.

  5. Well, we should wait to see what happens this weekend. Many countries are releasing where Nemo was big (in some cases, very big). But I would say it has very good chances looking at the US opening. Just DOM can make a 450 million (45% of a billion, so it would need a 55% OS to reach it). Among Pixar films, just Toy Story 1 and 2, Monsters Inc. and Cars did less than a 55% OS. The most recent film fo that list was released 10 years ago, when OS figures were not so big as now. Finding Nemo already reached a 61%. The last Pixar sequel (MU) did a 63%. Said this, Japan should be very important, since Nemo reached $102m there.
  6. With today ER, XMA has grossed $115m so it is basically tied to DOFP ($116m).
  7. I have just realized that Finding Dory is being released on Wednesday here, not Friday. School ends on Wednesday so it has sense. And Friday is holiday in some regions. It can make big numbers on Wed, Thu and Friday and not so big on both Sat and Sunday. Anyway, I expect big numbers here.
  8. That's true. But in Spain we live "later" than other countries. When I go to the cinema to see a film on Saturday night (about 10pm), it is not so unusual to see many children leaving the theater at that moment, even in Winter. And now in Summer, without school, even more. Tthe impact will not be so big as if the match had been at 18pm, but I think it will exist. And remember that kids go mainly to cinemas with adults and if those adults really want to see the match... end of story
  9. Very probably. We will know it tomorrow night, but it is very probable that Spain will play on Saturday at 21 hours, local time. And on Sunday, we have General Elections (again). Fortunately, Nemo and Dory are ADORED here, so in spite of not having a huge opening, it can have a great run. Let's remember that Finding Nemo sold 4,989,000 admissions, biggest Pixar film and 3rd animated ever just behind The Lion King (6.319 million) and Shrek 2 (6.079 million). And in terms of gross, it grossed €23.81m. It ranks 5th among animated films, behind Shrek 2 (€28.2m), Toy Story 3 (€24.98m), Up (€24.92m) and Minions (€24.43m).
  10. So, another flop with Independence Day according our expectatives (or at least my expectatives)? sci-fi, aliens, explosions use to be very attractive for Chinese people, but it seems this will not be a huge hit.

  12. I do not dare to make a global analysis. I will take just Spanish case: Finding Nemo sold here 4,989,415 admissions and grossed €23.8m ($29.46m according BOM). That gives a €4.77 average ticket price. This year, similar films like Jungle Book, Zootopia or Kung Fu Panda 3 have had about €5.7 average ticket price. With this average ticket price, FN would had done today €28.44m, what means $31.95m, barely a 8% higher than in 2003. Probably, this case it is not representative for other countries, but to say that given the bad ER and, in this case, low inflation, Dory will need to sell nearly the same amount of admissions than Nemo to match what it did. Pixar is very big here (IO sold 3.8 million admissions last year). And Finding Nemo is very well beloved (Dory as a character is even more adored than Nemo), so the chance exists. But it will be hard.
  13. When will we start to see presales figures for Independence Day? If I am not wrong, it will be released next Friday 24th, isn't it?
  14. June 10-16: 1. Suicide Squad 2. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 3. Jason Bourne 4. Star Trek Beyond 5. Wonder Woman 6. Beauty and the Beast 7. Passengers 8. Finding Dory 9. Rogue One 10. The Infiltrator
  15. Sure, it seems a lot, it is not locked, it is going to be close... what you want. But if average films like Maleficent or Cinderella are able to make that high, I do not see any reason why Jungle Book can't do the same. And look that I am not saying AiW figures. But it is obvious that Japan likes a lot these kind of Disney adaptations. Difficult? Maybe. Possible? For sure.
  16. Maybe I have exceeded my enthusiasm, but the chances are there. I will not say it is locked, but very probable. And just to add that last year the first 60 million film in Japan arrived in August. The fact that this year there is nothing that has broken out yet means nothing (excepting Zootopia, as you well know). Just lack of appealing until now. And to outgross Maleficent in Japan means to make a 5% more in Yen considering ER, what does not seem crazy considering that Jungle Book is quite better than Maleficent. Anyway, we'll see...
  17. According cbooo, it is already at 90m (19:20). 98m adding midnights.
  18. I agree with @picores. Considering precedents of recent Disney live action films and how they performed in both Japan and SK, I think we could bet for reaching the billion. I think it will need about 80 million from SK and Japan. Alice in Wonderland did $150m in both countries (133 + 17) Maleficent did $73m (63 + 10) Cinderella did $52m (47 + 5) Considering the size of Jungle Book, more similar to AiW than to the others, and how beloved the film has been everywhere, I see difficult it can not outgross, at least, Maleficent in both SK and Japan.

  20. I find that debatable, but of course it is one of the best movies ever made. No problem having it at top. And agree with Raiders. Curiously, it is not my favorite Indy movie (Last Crusade), but still an awesome movie.
  21. So low? it ranks 3rd. I understand you detest everything before 2000, but life started well before.
  22. Yes, it seems a very poor weekend. Local titles do not seem to be very promising either.
  23. Eddie the Eagle, The Nice Guys and Green Room (just saying American/British titles. There are more releases)
