  1. It is big, but not spectacular. Let's see if legs make it be bigger. For the moment, it will not reach Nemo gross, although it could be close. And unless it gets Inside Out legs (x7), Nemo's admissions (5 million) are out of reach. Similar to Minions and Inside Out last year, maybe lower.
  2. I guess with those 3 new big releases coming this Friday, holdovers will suffer a lot. Mainly both TMNT2 and Bounty hunters, which have only had 1 week with free calendar. What can we expect for them, maybe 350 for TMNT2 and 250 for Bounty hunters? or even less?

  4. Spain 2nd weekend: €1.8m. It means a 36% drop from the OW (Wednesday opening). Not bad.
  5. Argentina loves animation. 2015: Minions and Inside Out topped last year ranking. 2014: Frozen was second just behind local hit Relatos Salvajes. 2013: Monsters University and DM2 topped the rank. 2012: Ice Age 4 was the biggest film. 2011: Cars 2 ranked 1st, Puss in Boots #3, and Rio, KFP2 and Tangled were #5, #6 and #7. 2010: Both Toy Story 3 and Shrek 4 were the top films, topping Avatar... Said this, yes, it is quite relevant that Argentina can top big European markets, specially France, where Nemo already grossed $65m in 2003. I guess that Euro Football Cup is damaging the BO.
  6. I think that the death of the director of one the best films ever made (The Deer Hunter) deserves a thread. Michael Cimino dies at 77. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2016/jul/02/michael-cimino-director-deer-hunter-heavens-gate-dies An incredible vision about war and friendship. Probably, one of the best roles for Robert De Niro, Meryl Streep and Christopher Walken. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vw-Tyr6Rb6I
  7. ROTK, TDK and Toy Story 3 are, by far, the best of the bunch.
  8. Good, but I find a bit worrying that Q2 drop. One month drop can say a lack of appealing releases, but a whole quarter can indicate a slow down process (like @No Prisonershas been saying). How are the perspectives for the bunch of local films which are coming next weeks? Anyway, to make 24b during 6 first months already means a 84% of the whole 2014 BO, what I think it is still amazing. And correct me if I am wrong, but according my data, if we take the first half films released in both 2015 and 2016 and we order them by gross, we have that among top 15, 4 films are from 2015 and 11 films are from 2016. Maybe overall increase is not so spectacular, but top lists keeps changing a lot. "Quality" of grosses keeps increasing considerably.
  9. June 24-30: 1. Suicide Squad 2. Guardians of the Galaxy 2 3. Jason Bourne 4. Star Trek Beyond 5. Wonder Woman 6. Beauty and the Beast 7. Passengers 8. Rogue One 9. The Infiltrator 10. The LEGO Batman Movie

  11. I never took into account this kind of events. I can make an exception for Brexit or Argentinian Peso devaluation during December 2001, for example. But this kind of events are very unusual. And as you say, the fluctuations are not so hard during the release period of a film, even more considering that most of the money grossed by Hollywood releases is concentrated during first 2-3 weeks. I prefer to make approximations for more films than exact figures for less films. It is already hard to do in this way. And this just pretend to be an approximation. I will never say this film would had done $432,123,456.76 with certain ER, because it is absurd. Too many variables to be taken into account beyond the simple calculation we are doing. Just trying to put into perspective some numbers
  12. If you have estimated $645m with current ER and Zootopia is at $340m in US, that sums up $985m, not enough for billion... Anyway, amazing job If you are interested in this kind of adjustments, I tried to do it some months ago (although I am too busy right now to keep it updated). This is the thread: Exchange rates thread
  13. Top 5 weekend: 1. Finding Dory: €2.8m (€4.3m 5-day opening) 2. The Conjuring 2: €0.8m 3. Gods of Egypt: €0.5m 4. Neighbors 2: €0.4m 5. TMNT 2: €0.2m
  14. I guess that French figure has been affected because of today Eurocup match (3pm local time), but it is still disappointing comparing with Nemo. Relative to Spain, yes, it has opened lower than Nemo, but I trust in great legs like other Summer Pixar releases. Inside Out had a x7.5 multiplier. Monsters University had a x5.6 factor, Brave a x6 multiplier and Toy Story 3 a x6.36 factor (from the 3-day OW. It had OW 5-day opening, like Dory has had). Let's wait and see. I would not say if it is a disappointment or not yet.
  15. Euro has the same value relative to Dollar than in March... And relative to Pound, I guess that if Dory was supposed to make, let's say, $60m, even with a Pound a 15-20% lower, it would mean about 8-12 million lower for OS figures. Nothing disastrous... If Japan rules, I do not see how Dory can not outgross Zootopia. It needs a bit more than Inside Out OS figures, taking into account that Dory is outgrossing Zootopia in US by, probably 130-140m.
  16. Why not saying just Europe, since Switzerland or Norway do not belong to EU either?
  17. Yuan is dropping a lot today. Already at 6.616. I guess that Brexit affects everywhere.
  18. I have not info about ODs of other Pixar films. Sorry. But Spain uses to love Pixar.
  19. Yes, but it was Holy Week. And a SH film is WAY more frontloaded than an animated one. BvS had a x6.4 multiplier in admissions from the OD. I would not be surprised if we have a x20 multiplier for Dory taking into account the very good reviews. I can see Dory making over €20m, maybe repeating Nemo's figure (€23.8m). But we will know better when we have more data. Maybe I have exceed with the adjective "astonishing", but IMHO, it is a very good start.
  20. That would be a very good number. Just thinking that with Dory there will be 6 films over $300m in 6 months, one per month...
  21. No, quite lower. Last year, average ticket price was about €6.2. Concerning animated films, both Zootopia and Kung Fu Panda 3 have averaged about €5.75. And Wednesday is a discount day. Probably around €1m OD or a bit more.
