100M is average blockbuster numbers for China during normal circumstances. Even the far less well-received Wonder Woman made 90M+. If a film breaks out then 200-300M are the numbers on the table. Seeing the positive reactions, I feel like The Batman could have had 150M in the bag in a better scenario.

And he's still probably crossing 800M when some non-believers refused to entertain the idea of the film coming close to such numbers even in the scenario of all those markets functioning at peak capacity.

They did a pretty decent job for Crazy Rich Asians, much better than I expected of them If they have marketing make this out to be even half as big a deal as Black Panther, I feel like Wonder Woman DOM is on the table. Internationally, it could be a record breaker in Latin markets.

I think it's less that they have problems with Liu and Zhao's statements but more that the government wants to avoid showing films that glorify the immigrant experience, especially immigrants who have settled in the West. Of course, still doesn't explain why Black Widow, NWH and Venom 2 were blocked too. It could also be a way of "putting Marvel in its place" by not letting them outearn local releases.

TBF Selina is a supporting player in a Batman story here. Returns will always be an anomaly because it is actually a Catwoman movie as written by the writer of Heathers with Batman as a supporting player. FWIW, I think in terms of utilizing Selina as a support, The Batman did a much better job than TDKR as it gave her backstory, vulnerabilities, interpersonal relationships with characters other than Batman and a more satisfying arc. And they are clearly setting her up for her own solo adventures with her heading to Bludhaven. So I just see The Batman as a launchpad for the character.
