  1. Reminds me a lot of The Social Network in terms of my response and reaction to it. Well-made, and an above average historical drama with some interesting scenes. But in the end, simply not entertaining or involving enough for me to become one of my favorites of the year. A decent film for a matinee watch, IMO. B
  2. Too bad it needed Thursday shows to get that mark. Don't think it's a bad number, but 4th best OD when it needed substantial help from Thursday just isn't that impressive, especially for a finale.I'm actually with you on the haters, it's doing as expected.
  3. It's ok guys. Bk007 is coming off his meth high and crashing harder than Lindsay Lohan after New Year's Eve in Las Vegas.
  4. It's ok guys. Clearly Nikki dropped too much acid.....again.
  5. If it didn't matter to them, they would have split up the damn grosses and not acted like illogical buffoons by counting the 10 p.m. showings on THURSDAY night into the Friday grosses, IMO.Your Twihard loonmanship gets the best of you again.
  6. The 10 p.m. Thursday thing is ridiculous.First of all, a 24-hr day is from 12 a.m. to the following 12 a.m. Therefore, counting 10 p.m. Thursday shows isn't just fudging, it's downright lying. I also don't buy the whole "the same people would have seen it at midnight" argument. In reality, its audience is generally 12-18 and have school........so I have no doubt more people are able to go at 10 p.m. as opposed to if they only had midnight showings. It just seems like Summit is trying to make the number appear better than it actually is to me. What a bunch of hack-jobs, IMO.
  7. I kind of liked it more than others, but it's still a big mess. DiCaprio's performance obvioiusly carries the film, but I feel was a really great movie trying to get out amidst all the clutter. It works best as a biopic centering on the personal life of Hoover, but unfortunately there are simply too many weird edits cutting to either present time, the kidnapping (which was really bland), or the development of the FBI in general. A better film would have resulted if the film focused on the personal life, but was complemented by the other subjects. Instead, it was really uneven and constantly broke its own momentum countless times during the movie. I will say Clyde's make-up job was absolutely brutal, he looked like something out of an 80's monster film. I enjoyed it overall, but lots of missed potential here. B-
  8. Didn't really work for me. I actually liked Blunt and McGregor, and their romance was at least adequate. However, the whole love triangle really almost drives the whole film into oblivion. Never bought that angle, and when the focus shifts to that during the climax, it really fails overall as a movie. I wanted more of the fishing experiment on display, and instead got typical rom-com cliche haven towards the end. It's just your typical rom-com masquerading as something different and does have some nice subtle touches, but in the end.........just a typical rom-com. C+

  10. This is not for everyone, but I pretty much loved it. It's part family drama, crime thriller, and then eventually all-out, darker than dark horror. The score is brutal, creating tension and building atmosphere from the moment the film begins. There is a suffocating tone that pervades throughout the film. You watch with unease knowing that something is eventually going to come out from behind the corner, and thrown everything on it's head. That last half hour is one of the most intense and harrowing conclusions to a film I've seen in a long time, and has one of the more shocking endings I've seen in some time. And for once, it's a film that has horror elements that is downright SCARY. It's definitely not for everyone, but for those who like experimenting with different genres in a film.........and then some dark horror thrown in to boot, this is not to be missed. A-
  11. This was pretty bad. The plot is so boring, and outside of the look and feel of the film, there's really not much to recommend. I will say it's somewhat entertaining as a result of Cusack's performance where he basically loses it at times and easily transgresses into unbridled camp territory. I'm not sure if that was his intent, but I'll be damned if I didn't get a few laughs out of his ridiculous performance. Besides that, it's pointless. C-
  12. It's mildly amusing in parts, but as Gopher referenced, one has to wonder why this was made into a film. Some good performances and lines don't excuse the fact that it becomes largely redundant and tiresome after 30-40 minutes. C+
  13. Let's get something out of the way....this is an awesome film.Once Barden arrives, it's the stuff of action legend. The action builds effectively throughout, leading to an absolute insane display of intense, harrowing action for the last half hour. The added depth is the touch that ices the cake in not just a good Bond movie, but something more special. It's quite simply the best movie of the year thus far.A-
  14. At the risk of sound unpatriotic.................this was simply a fucking awful film that should have never been released wide, and had some of the worst acting/dialogue I think I've ever seen. After I passed out for the 2nd time for an extended period in the first hour.........I figured my subconscious was telling me to GTFO ASAP. D

  16. I agree with this. It does have its funny moments, and is better than previous installments.......but I felt like I should have been on some hard drugs to truly enjoy it. I will say, it was damn funny when they get to the Coliseum.....and the penguin goes, "What a dump!" Also liked the "Canadian work ethic" line. Good stuff. C
  17. Yeah, it's definitely well-made, but I liked The Town and Gone Baby Gone a good amount more. Granted, I did love those two, and I think the main problem I had with this film was the lack of character development. I understand it's the kind of movie that doesn't lend itself to providing a lot of time to each and every character, but for me personally, I tend to like and appreciate films more when I can relate to the characters.
  18. I really wanted to love it, but I ended up just finding it to be a really well-made film that's missing something to make it great. I wanted to know the characters more and to feel more investment in the events happening, but it just didn't happen for me. Still, it's a good film that does everything adequately. I was kind of amused by the chain reaction of close calls that began bordering on the ridiculous towards the end, but I suppose that was to be expected. It definitely won't be my favorite at the end of the year, but if it does win BP.........I suppose it's better than some in recent memory at least. B+

  20. Really pretty bad, and it's ironic that the film is the opposite of what Seuss was going for in message and tone. Probably some of the most poorly written characters you'll come across in an animated film, and outside of the visual flair and some cool stuff to look at, there's really no reason to watch this. I wanted to throw something at my TV when the "how bad am I" number came on midway through the movie, simply brutal. D+
  21. Ahhh this was great stuff.Twisted, witty, and hilarious with moments of depth sprinkled in throughout. One of those rare movies that gets better as it goes along, and it's a credit to the talent involved that the film succeeds. And dear god, give Christopher Walken more roles.A-
  22. Listening to Algren talk about film quality and taste is kind of like asking a 4-year old questions on subjects such as the origin of the universe or the meaning of life.
  23. It's better than it could have been, and has some moments that surprisingly work well. Kudos for trying to add a little more depth, and the alcoholic dad angle just barely works. Still, I thought the hand-held camera aspect served as a hindrance, and the emo high school angle was laughable, particularly the party scene. Grow some balls and stop acting like a vagina, IMO.Still, not bad.B-
