Have just checked. MONSTERS UNIVERSITY opened in just two new markets, Hungary and Taiwan. Those aren't majors and the movie only dropped by 18.9%! Crazy!

54.5 M last weekend

44.2 M this weekend

Firedeep, where are ya? :P

It's a shame. People still saw Armageddon in droves after Depp Impact was a hit.

Different eras. We're talking 15 years ago.

Movie tickets were not that expensive. People had more money. Economy was great. Bill Gates was worth $100 billion....lol

Not happy with that number

Yep, it's a shame.  WHD is a very fun summer film.  The Heat was about as good as IT.  But people seem to love MM, so what can you do?

Armageddon had a 5 day weekend and it only fell 12% on its first Thursday. I don't think the opening was weak at all.

It was considered underwhelming considering the budget and marketing. Deep Impact definitely hindered it. Strong legs however saved it This is boxofficeguru's article on Armageddon's opening http://www.boxofficeguru.com/070698.htm

France too. Latin America and a bunch of European countries. Will it be released in China? I'll take even 5 M. lol

Olive said it'll be released in China but I'm not expecting much. Maybe 10M but amazing start OS for it.

4th of July weekend is a make it or break it for WHD.

Well, it has basically a week of holidays coming up, starting with Canada Day tomorrow, so it is possible that it has decent legs.

Yea, in August!

I'm hoping for 15M if it's not released with DM2 closely.

I also think that the studios marketed the differences pretty well, because the asteroid was the only thing they had in common. They also both had really strong casts. The few people I know who have seen it basically said WHD was a fun movie, but was trying way too hard to be like Die Hard.I also think that there is a probably some action movie fatigue with GA. Afterall, action movies of one sort or another have dominated the BO since May. So that probably contributed as well. Edited by Emma1420

I hope decent enough for a 100M+ Dom total..... I'm currently predicting 85M........

This Is the End needs less than a 4x multiplier from this weekend to hit 100. Unless it loses a ton of theaters this week and falls off a cliff, I think it'll get there. Hurrah for Rogen and company!

I think there is enough interest in it that it will get very close to 100 mill, probably exceed it.

Nothing much but complain. At least as you said, it's a fun summer movie.I guess OHF took too much away from WHD and Sony marketing stunk in trying to differentiate between the two. The only thing to hope for is that it has good legs and of the course OS market...
