But what makes Ratatouille garbage? I'm honestly curious, since it's Pixar's most adult film, and definitely my favorite original Pixar film. Our tastes don't align obviously, but Ratatouille was one I was sure you'd love.

 

It bored me to the point where I almost walked out. I think I had to take two breaks so I wouldn't explode.

I saw your top 100. You left some good films. Ric I hate to break to but my taste is better. But if makes you feel any better I liked a lot of movies in top 100. 

 

Of course I left the good films out. I've seen too many movies to include just good movies in my top 100. It's great or bust for my top 100. You sir need to expand your repertoire.

The thing that made the characters in Alien so good was that it felt like a secret camera was recording them most of the time, making it feel extremely realistic.  The fact that there wasn't even a main character half way through greatly added to the tension when shit started going south, its a masterpiece of suspense and tension.  The characters in Aliens are very good, but they felt more like carefully written movie characters.

Can't argue with that. Looks- and general behavior-wise I could definitely buy them as gritty space workers. But I guess in this case I just preferred the more carefully written, memorable ensemble of Aliens.

He's a fave of bitter film students because he has such a bleak, clinical view of humanity. And, of course, I'll freely admit that I think several of his films are masterpieces. However, the rest are simply good.
