Yeah but CM's opening was too big for SC to match. I doubt it would even get close. F9 could have matched Hobbs and Shaw. So F9 would be well ahead.

I would say 10cr : 7cr in favour of F9 for now.

Edit: Ideally CM shouldn't have opened to ₹15cr as it did. Female superhero, no one knew her but it did thanks to pre-EG hype. Even then the expectations before pre-sale opening were ₹8-10cr only but pre-sales started really well and so have for SC which I didn't really expect.

Pre IW, ₹70-75cr seem like ceiling for MCU solo movies but that has grown to probably ₹150cr now.

Shang Chi PVR numbers in some cities as of 19:00

Chennai - 1700+ (8)
Hyderabad - 879 (6)
Delhi-NCR - 480 (15)

Bengaluru - 274 (7)

Kolkata - 203 (1)

Ahmedabad - 42 (1)

Chandigarh - 59 (1)

Total - 3600+ (39)

All India probably around 5K. Great start especially in South India. In normalcy such advance would guarantee ₹10cr plus opening but now probably ₹5cr won't be too much to ask for.

Randomly remembered Koochie Koochie Hota Hai, it got cancelled randomly despite everything being done and being ready enough to put together the trailer 10 years ago. Someone should ask Karan Johar about this, it wasn't even mentioned in the 20 year KKHH panel, maybe for the 25th.

Wonder if Takht will follow similarly.

Thought will share my theater stats.

Shang Chi PVR Elante T-2 Days

2D (English) - 118/372 on 4 shows
2D (Hindi) - 12/93 on 1 show

Total - 130/465 (+69)

F9 PVR Elante T-1 Days

2D (English) - 31/645 on 5 shows
4DX (English) - 50/156 on 3 shows
4DX (Hindi) - 51/104 on 2 shows

Total - 132/905 on 10 shows (+52)

Good numbers for both. Shang Chi will need more shows probably tomorrow will get them. F9 is doing well in 4DX but 2D are slow. The problem is capacity as one local film is doing bonkers and can't afford losing that. SC numbers are for 2 days while F9 is on sales since SAT.

Folks waiting for more shows, need more shows ASAP but it won't be simple with F9 seems to do well as well.

F9 PVR Elante T-4 Hours

2D (English) - 82/645 on 5 shows
4DX (English) - 87/156 on 3 shows
4DX (Hindi) - 93/104 on 2 shows

Total - 262/905 on 10 shows (+130)

Good bump on final day. Honestly I didn't expected this since it was online. PVR properties in my state has sold 960 tickets which is more than a Bollywood film starring Akshay Kumar Bell Bottom did 2 weeks ago. The release is small so PSm will be smaller than usual.

I didn't look too deep but sales in South weren't as good as one would expect after seeing Punjab but I suppose walk-ins may come. I am thinking ₹4-5cr opening day for now. Let's see.

Edit : Final for F9 320. 107, 107 & 106 in 3 formats.

2D (English) - 233/372 on 4 shows
2D (Hindi) - 55/93 on 1 shows

4DX - 24/162 on 3 shows

4DX started late, could have been SELL OUTs by now if started at normal time. Capacity is very low. From these sales, with normal release could have had 1K admits but now will probably finish at 600.

Edit: Final 377/627. 255, 60 & 62.

In a small centre of Bihar, first show admits in recent times.

Bell Bottom - 31

F9 - 28

ShangChi - 121

A Chinese lead movie opening 4x of a film starring Bollywood superstar in interiors. Unfathomable. You did it Kevin Feige. MCU 👌

@Menor in normalcy Shang Chi could have beaten F9.

It is said, whatever happens, happens for the best. Well, that’s what some owners and booking agents of single-screen cinemas in Delhi-U.P. must be feeling today.

Warner Brothers, which released Fast & Furious 9: The Fast Saga (English and Hindi dubbed) this week (on Thursday, its paid previews were held all through the day), wanted cinemas to pay it MGs. Many cinemas declined to pay the Minimum Guarantees demanded by Warner. Exasperated when Warner was unwilling to relent, the cinema owners and bookers decided to screen Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings which also opened this week. Unlike F9, Shang-Chi, a Marvel film, did not open on Thursday but it released today (3rd September).

Anyway, the owners and bookers were not happy to let go of F9 because, after all, Fast & Furious is a very popular and successful franchise. On the other hand, even though Shang-Chi is a Marvel film, the fact is that it has Chinese actors in many of the lead roles. So even while they had mentally decided to screen Shang-Chi in all the shows, they attempted to still make the Warner people see reason and not be “unreasonable”. The Warner people did see reason and finally relented, agreeing to not insist on MGs. But that was not the end of the story.

Now, Warner wanted all the shows for F9. In the alternative, the Hollywood studio wanted more number of shows than given to Shang-Chi per day. But, unfortunately for Warner, several of the cinemas, which were willing to happily play F9 without giving MGs, had already opened the advance booking for Shang-Chi, often in daily 3 shows of the 5 shows. This did not go down well with Warner. Although Warner realised that it would not be possible for the cinemas to refund the advance booking monies received, it did not relent this time. As a result, these cinemas were forced to screen Shang-Chi in all the five shows. Of course, the cinemas still regretted that they could not screen the brand-heavy F9.

But the initial of Shang-Chi today is so good that the cinema owners and bookers, who took the risk of forgoing F9, are now actually thanking their stars that although per force, they opted for Shang-Chi and not F9. It may be added here that the collections of Shang-Chi are better than those of F9 at many places. Some of these cinemas have reported that Shang-Chi has collected four times of what F9 has collected today!

Sometimes, Providence plays such an important role that one is just left speechless! It was in the destiny of these cinemas to earn more — and it is happening!!

WB could have easily released F9 previous week or next week. Just being petty clashing F9 with SC.

piracy kills wherever we are. Also with internet and social media, there will definitely be huge difference in the hype level for a new film vs delayed release

This is a 90% collapse from F8, piracy really have no mercy....

40% market is closed and clash with Shang Chi, the one that is open isn't fast and runing yet. Hobbs and Shaw did ₹45cr opening weekend, F9 in normal times would have done ₹40cr probably, so about 40-50% loss due to piracy.
