Halo 3 was the most played thing online in the 360 for years. Not quite true. I remember when CoD 4 finally overtook Halo 3 on Xbox Live in January 2008, I believe. It's undeniable that CoD 4 is the most influential FPS game of the last decade, and probably the most influential game of the last ten years, period. It's also undeniable that Halo 4's population has sunk into the pits because it was chasing after CoD. If you mean by inspiring copycats alone, then yes. But CoD 4 certainly did not change FPS games the way Halo did with its gameplay or Halo 2 did with it breaking open the online multiplayer market.
