I haven't stated it was a bad film, just that it was overhyped (Same as Hustle) and at its core pretentious, stuff the social message down your throat kind of film. (in other words, it a typical awards bait contender) My opinion nothing more. You haven't convinved me you know what pretentious means, but ok. narniadis Posted February 16, 2014 Share Posted February 16, 2014 And Jake, maybe it was the audience reaction shadowing my opinion too much but I really feel like McQueen hammered down a Whites are evil message the whole film - try and find one truly redeeming white character in the film and you wait all the way till the end to do so. In part because that was Solomon's story but its all in how its presented. And the mainly black audience I saw it with reinforced that ideal.
