druv10
Hobbit's losing over 1,100 theaters. Looks like some of these big count drops are generally tied to studios which are expanding their Oscar contenders. What about Frozen? SMB didn't get much love from Academy. Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted January 16, 2014 Author Founder / Operator Share Posted January 16, 2014 What about Frozen? SMB didn't get much love from Academy. Frozen losing just 260 (to 2,979). Banks losing 222 (to 2,449). Then again, Disney doesn't have many Oscar contenders to pimp out.

It is losing digital IMAX to Jack Ryan, and Oscar contenders will be expanding as well. Hobbit will probably lose another good chunk of theaters in 2 weeks' time when Gravity takes over IMAX again. Frozen losing just 260 (to 2,979). Banks losing 222 (to 2,449). Then again, Disney doesn't have many Oscar contenders to pimp out. Wait, you mean "The Lone Ranger" is not going to get a re-release??? Why??? Edited January 16, 2014 by grim22

Founder / Operator Shawn Robbins Posted January 16, 2014 Author Founder / Operator Share Posted January 16, 2014 Disney and exhibitors both know there's no competition for the family audience. No point in dropping it on a holiday weekend unless necessary.
