BO.com 100 Greatest Directors PRESENTATION

Recommended Posts

And btw, if Spielberg didn't make any film after ET, he would still be the number one director of all time.  Schindler's List and Jurassic Park just put him over the top.  Same with Marty.  He could stop making movies after Goodfellas and he'd be up near the top.  Nolan has a long way to go before he tops those two.  TDK is fantastic, absolutely fantastic, but one film does not make you a GOD.

Yeah Speilberg is the best for me too simply because he's so diverse. He can make a serious masterpiece and a crowd pleasing blockbuster and sometimes in the same year lol.

What a gross oversimplification of Nolan's filmography.  That's like saying The Social Network is a fantastic Fincher film, and then dismissing Se7en, Fight Club, TGWTDT, etc.

Same with Tarantino.  Pulp Fiction is Awesome, but forget Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, Basterds, Django. <_<

Even without TDK, Nolan still has Batman Begins, The Dark Knight Rises, Insomnia, Prestige, Following, Inception AND Memento.  That alone is a list that most directors DREAM of having on their resume.

Hopefully, the Coen Brothers get mentioned soon. They're the last truly bad choice that I know is coming. The sooner we get their over-rated position on this list, the sooner it should be smooth sailing afterwards. Of course, this list could always surprise me as it has continued to....I mean Ang Lee....you have to be kidding me.

I hope we see them towards the end Edited by DAR

That's nothing compared to Spielberg.  That was my point.

john ford is a pristine example of why the golden age of hollywood under the studio system is enormously overrated: he produced generic mass entertainment to make big bucks. that's fine for entertainment, but i see no reason to promote him over the biggest entertainment producers today.
