Yes true rth. Thought it would be up there. Though this is more driven by ticket prices. No where near the crazy business seen in 2002 / 2003 boxing days. Attendance wise I expect it to be much lower. (null)

26-27 Pretty much been what was expected although ATT has so far performed a lot higher than #2 film.26th is the 2nd biggest over the last 5 years (#1 2009 country mile, #3 2007,#4 2010), Xmas day 4th biggest last 5 years (#1 2009, #2 2007, #3 2010)FYI: xmas day 51 theatre open, been pretty consistent last 10 years, average last 5 years 52 open and back in 2001 58 were open Xmas day

Great info.. Thumbs up...

True , 02/03 were also dominated by one film in each, may or may not have been as high without LOTR depending on replacement, likes senarios get run if Avatar wasn't there in 09/10

Yes true. There must be a string of films just behind mi4. Most years have seen one film dominate. 2001. LOTR1 (4m?)2002 LOTR2 (5.2m)2003 LOTR3 (5.2m)2004 meet the fockers (3m?)2005 narnia 1 (3.6m)2006 happy feet? (3m?)2007 can't remember20082009 avatar 3.5m (did it lead on bd. Can't remember)2010 ??? 2011 tin tin 1.5mIn that context this boxing day doesn't look so good. Its just sheer weight of films. Or too many at once meaning no major breakout.

Thanks RTH - i was going to dig it up later but was on my phone and out & about when i posted. I think i've got most of that data somewhere here ;) While this is one of the bigger years $ wise, it must be one of the weakest number 1's in a while. Though i doubt DTESS was that big. LF was probably small too actually. lol wow 2010 was a shocker really ;) I knew avatar won boxing day but was never sure by how much. crazy to think it was a film in it's 2nd week of play by that time and still dominaed by that much... :D

Its quite ridiculous actually, the situation we're currently in.It's one of the biggest weekends of the year, and we arent given numbers due to the public holiday, so we have to rely on RTH, who, correct me if I'm wrong, we don't even know to this day how he gets such accurate numbers (not an attack at RTHs cred, just pointing that out that's all).Last year we didn't have any data and that was when TKS had a massive weekend. Reporting of Australian Box Office figures is so poor - they get the numbers on a daily basis (correction, pretty much live basis from cinemas) yet we get two numbers a week, in a crappy little table that only shows the Top 10, there gross and nothing else, not even a to-date total. (just for MPDAA).Seriously, it would take someone like 5 minutes a day to fill out the template and put in 10 numbers if theyre not bothered to do any more, and if they wanted to be generous and put daily/weekly drops, I know s#!t all about web formatting but even I know that formula in excel. You never know, more data might actually spike more interest in the box office, with the potential for greater awareness of Australian productions and that could only be a good thing considering like 1 in a billion make back their production budget.

So how much is Tintin looking to finish with?

We only know 1 figure at the moment and that is the Monday public holiday figure, so it's not really that much to go off unfortunately. However, I could take an educated guess and say that, if it took $1.5m in a single day, $12-13m seems locked!
