I don't know much about the Australian box office but how far is TFA from the record and do you think it will catch it?

Various records are in posts on page 1 of this thread.  There's a very good chance it will pass Avatar's $115.6m.  Also, TFA's first 3 weekends could be in the top 10 biggest weekends all time.

However, it will need AUD146m to pass Avatar's USD total of USD105.8m

Funnily enough if it continues perform at the same pace as avatar albeit at a much higher level, it could end passing that. I think this place would implode at that level but yeah it's not impossible at this point.

Today was around a 50% drop from yesterday for Star Wars at my work. Still our busiest Christmas Eve ever with Star Wars making more then any other Christmas Eve with all films combined (except in 2002). Tomorrow will be an interesting day, no idea how it'll play. It's 35C in Melbourne which might help drive families to the cinemas in the evening.

X-Mas day numbers aren't going to be that exciting, in my city most of the cinemas are closed and the one that aren't only start showing from 3PM. Boxing day should make up for it though.:P

Having said that, I'm going for my second viewing today instead because there aren't many good seats left for me tomorrow.

Christmas Eve was $2.1m roughly.

If we go by my site's numbers Christmas day would be $1.5m.

With the pouring rain and the cancellation of the boxing day test, it's definitely going to be a crazy day for us!

I guess both are good numbers for X-mas eve and X-mas day?

Christmas day drops from Eve in Australia?

It's only been recent times they open at all on Xmas day. It's why a lot of big films (LOTR etc) opened Boxing Day here. Avatar was a rare blockbuster that opened the week before. TFA joins that now.

So Victoria really led the way with Christmas day with Village Cinemas alone having a 30%+ market share for all films.

So my sites results were sadly not representative of the nation and star wars only made roughly $600k for a $2.75m week to date total.

This morning is also surprisingly quite, Alvin is barely pulling in anyone. Hopefully Star Wars can pull in the crowds this afternoon!

Prob forgot nearly all  theatres closed Xmas day and of the few open  only from around 3p on

Over 20% higher then prev record Avatar (Avatar beat previous to that by nearly 3 times)

# thrs also don't report Xmas day till boxing day eve
