Can Toy Story even reach 1M admissions? At this point it's looking extremely likely for it to become the lowest of the series in terms of tickets sold.

The 4th of July.

The UCI chain (2nd biggest of the country) already has its showings listed and it looks like it's getting 1 showing per day, at 9:00 pm. The sing-along re-release of Frozen didn't even make it to the top 10, but it was in a weekend where the #10 movie grossed 50% more than the #2 movie this Saturday. Also, EG has one hell of a fanbase, so I'm thinking it will do just well. Needs 255K more to get to 30M euros, and it's feasible.

Definitely. Endgame was helped A LOT by the rainiy April and May, just like IW was hurt by the sunny May last year. Just do a weather switch and you may see EG finishing below IW.

Toy Story 4 disappointed big time, but it still pushed the weekend considerably up (+67.51%) from the same weekend last year. 2019 is now up from 2018 by 5.13%.

 

Toy Story 4 was never going to replicate the success of its predecessor, as the third chapter was greatly boosted by 3D. Also, all the planets were aligned to spell doom: disappointing opening in Spain, failures all around June, Woody's dubber dead,... Unfortunately, bad weather is being postponed every day (from "rain and storms next weekend" to "maybe some cloudburst the week after") so it can't even count on a great hold the following weekend. At this point, it's very likely to be the first of the series to miss the 1M admissions. Should have kept the usual mid-September release for Pixar films.

 

Aladdin survived pretty well the lack of rain (last weekend was inflated by storms hitting the north on Saturday) and the arrival of TS4. It's now very likely to beat Cinderella (15.03M) and become the #2 Disney LA film, obviously behind BatB.

 

Pets 2 is, at this point, just comic material. Worst drop in the top 10, now fallen behind Aladdin despite being 2 weeks "younger" (which means a lot in Italy) and having 30/40% more showings. Its total gross will only reach 80% of the original...'s opening weekend!

 

Dark Phoenix is now unfortunately certain to finish below First Class, likely by just 5%. In relative terms, though, it didn't perform that bad.

 

Child's Play already hit the bottom of the chart. No audience for this.

 

Outside of the top 10, we have yet another collapse for Godzilla, down 70%+ and now basically at the end of its (awful) run (25K weekend, 2.21M total). But more importantly, Ma opened in #11 and couldn't even manage to sell 10k tickets over the whole 4-day frame. Disastrous.

 

Next week the only notable opener will be Annabelle 3, which should sell approx 150/200K tickets and open in the 1.0/1.5 range.

For those interested, there's also Escape Plan 3. :lol:

Nice increase for Toy Story 4!

Aladdin saw a big jump thanks to many theaters offering discount tickets for it. Considering it replicates today, expect a steep fall on Thursday. Still it's funny to see it 4 tickets away from the #2 movie on its 41st day of release.

Child's Play is a lost cause - too bad as the movie is actually pretty good.

Oh come on. This is a little too hyperbolic. Its not like it rained every day April - May.  Plus it was Spring, a period in which, on average, it rains more. Its not like every Spring release grosses significantly more than do summer releases, which additionally benefit from summer vacation.

In any case, you're suggesting a few extra rainy days/weekends resulted in an over 50% swing at the box office. For a massive frontloaded fan film like Endgame and IW, there's just no way the effect is so large (or any film for that matter). EG almost outgrossed IW in its OW alone, I think its safe to presume it would have outgrossed IW regardless

Infinity War was hurt from day-one by the (abnormal) sunny weather. I remember people were already making beaches crowded in late April. Also, it's not like there was some raining days on May - which is in fact quite normal: it's been the rainiest late April-May frame in many many years, which in fact produced the hottest June EVER (with the effect you saw on BO). With a totally different weather, Endgame would have lost at least 10/15% of its business on its first days, and likely 30%+ in May (give it a sunny weather, and its 2nd weekend would have struggled to 3M instead of going as high as 4M). The total would have been around 23-25M. Give the awful weather to IW and you get 15% more on its first days and 50% more for the rest of its run, for a total of 22-23+M.

 

Anyways, speaking of EG, I wouldn't expect much from its re-release, considering the lack of showtimes and the way moviegoing works here.

Endgame is actually getting a lot of showings, they must be quite confident in it (or desperate...). 4/5 showings per day, incredible!

 

I'm now expecting it to be in the top 3/4 this Thursday.
