Nothing of interesting on the weekend 10 to 13 March, which ended with a total of 9.7 million, down 15% from the previous weekend.
First spot for the new chapter of The Divergent saga. Allegiant debuted with 1.4 million euro, on par with last year Divergent. Released on Wednesday, the movie has exceeded 1.6 million 5 days total. The new Coen bros, Hail, Caesar!  is #2 with 986k euros.
The effect of the controversal Fox's decision to give a preview of two days, Saturday and Sunday, for Kung Fu Panda 3 on 400 screens wasn't so strong as expected: only 881k euro, not a good sign for the wide release coming soon. Zootropolis Loses 55%. The Disney animated film, though, thanks to the 913k euros collected, crosses the finish line of the 10 million total since Feb. 18.

The numbers of the weekend March 17-20  show a decline of 23% compared to the previous weekend, for a total box office of 7.5 million.
In first place Kung Fu Panda 3 (Fox), with 2.2M€, for a total of 3.1M€ with previews (KFP2 was at 4,46M€ at the same time).  In second The Divergent Series: Allegiant (Eagle), with 698K€ (-51%), for a total of 2.6M€ in eleven days (better of Insurgent that was at 2,34M€ at the same time). Complete the podium the Coen brothers, Hail, Caesar! (Universal), with 531K€ (-46%), for a total of 1.7 million in eleven days.
Disney Zootropolis (Zootopia) collect 338K€ (-63%) for a total of 10.7M€. This is another good performance for the animation genre, that confirms its appeal among the moviegoers. However, even if Zootropolis generated strong word of mouth and received very good reviews (some scenes and characters are dumped directly in the pop culture), it failed to reach the level of similar original Disney/Pixar like Inside Out (25M€) or Frozen (20M€). Bad release date? Maybe, surely back to school (IO) and Christmas (Frozen) are better places for animated here. I hope Easter Holidays coming soon will give a new boost.

Last Friday was extremely inflated for family films, and normal Fridays behave just 30/50% better than weekdays in Italy. That said, not a good hold.

Let's see if BvS can beat Zootopia (11.3)

Man of Steel only did €4.7m.

BvS will double that.

A weekend not exciting ended with a box office of 7 million, a decrease of 33% compared to the previous week.
Batman v Superman (Warner), is still #1 with 1.6M€; the film loses, however, 60% in its second weekend (it was difficult to repeat the Easter weekend performance) and comes to almost 8.9 million by March 23. In second place, with a decline of 50%, we find the animated film Kung Fu Panda 3 (Fox), with 769K€ euro for a total of 7.3M€ by March 17. Complete the podium the higher new entry : Race-The winning color (Eagle) with 698K€.
In fourth place we find  Hedi (Lucky Red), with 652K€ (-19%), for a total of 2.2M€ since March 24. At #5 My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 (Universal) collect 382K€ (-41%), for a total approaching 1.5 million from 24 March.
Zootropolis (Zootopia) ends its run near 11,2M$, well behind other animated blockbusters.

The Huntsman Winter's War, the Frozen's fake live action, opens yesterday with a poor 136K and freezed reviews.

The trailers don't make much of an impression. I don't know what Universal is thinking. KStew still has her fans  you know....

Very good OD in Italy for The Jungle Book.

125.000 ADM (2 times Cinderella)

427k euros (345k Cinderella)

:)

Obviously those numbers are heavily influenced by "Cinema Days" discounted prices (3€ 2D - 5€ 3D). Today, with usual prices, we'll see.
