There are film editors in Hollywood who make a good living because they can make just about any movie, no matter how crappy, look good.

I would say this is a textbook case of the marketing being much, much more creative then the movie. I sort of liked the hair bit. Classic William Castle sleaze. But never forget that their ability to make ANYTHING look good is why people in marketing and advertising pull down the big bucks. Yeah, it seems something happened to this Grudge movie. I've seen some posters comparing the ending to The Devil Inside. Some are also saying scenes from the trailer weren't in the movie. Yeah....but you always hope it's that good. After all, the trailers are all we have to go by.
MovieGuyKyle17
I see the tradition of terrible horror movies being released the first week of January is continuing.
75Live
I guess I should have stuck with my initial feeling that the trailers looked awful so I thought it would do bad. But something got into me thinking it's the first horror film of the year and people may be interested. Boy was I wrong Edited January 4, 2020 by 75Live

JB33
Saw this tonight. Not nearly as bad as I was expecting. It was just a very different movie than what the trailer presented. It ultimately wasn't a conventional horror flick and that clearly turned a ton of people off. I'm honestly not sure what I just watched though.... Comments later.
JB33
$11,404,113 OW for The Grudge. With the toxic word of mouth it has. have to think it drops around 65% next weekend ($3.99M) and disappears pretty fast after that. Too bad.
