Weekend #'s FIOS: 48.2, EOT: 29.1

Recommended Posts

I meant post the OW. With a lack of comedy options, and Neighbors actually being a pretty good movie, I really thought 150-160M was on the table for it.

Eh! The same people who go to see Neighbors also go see the big blockbusters that get released just about every week (Godzilla, Days of Future Past), so it made sense that it wouldn't have great legs, especially since its opening weekend was quite big (especially for a comedy).

Not many big ones , but quite a few: Ride Along, Rio 2, Peabody, Non-Stop, Heaven, Other Woman, Monuments Men, Nut Job, God's Not Dead, Jack Ryan, MDA, Awkward, & Bears

It's amazing, that's like a laundry list of under-served demographics.

So we have animated movies (bodes well for HTTYD2), movies with a female lead (maybe Maleficent and TFIOS can do it?), Religious movies (none in summer), and for some reason Jack Ryan.

None of the big openers apart from Ride Along and Rio 2 (even those were medium sized openers) seem to be doing it. Basically, to open big, a movie now needs to be an established property or have something with a big following behind it. Of course, this causes major frontloading.

The most kid-friendly of Superheroes, by far, is Spiderman. And DOFP will actually show better legs than TASM2. Despite the kid friendliness, TASM2 will eke out a 2.15 multiplier by the end, I am shocked how bad the legs for TASM2 and Godzilla have turned out to be. Or for that matter, even Neighbors which looked like it would do really well for a comedy.

Have we had any 3 multipliers outside of Lego this year?

So for 100m+ movies, Ride Along, Rio 2, Lego and Peabody made it.

Neighbors is just 13m away from 147m(multiplier of 3 from 49m ow), so could make it.

22JS will hurt it though.
