It had a 3X which indicates that the WOM was fine.  But it suffered from the sins of Sandlers Past.

 

Duly noted, but does a 3x multiplier off of a 14M opening weekend really make it as special and well liked as a movie that achieved the same multiplier off of a weekend 4 times higher?

No it doesn't. It just means that while it wasn't in enough demand to open above $14m, it also wasn't bad enough as to bleed what little audience it had. It's still the third worst OW admissions in over 3500 theaters (behind Cats & Dogs 2 and New Year's Eve) and will end its run as the third least-attended film to open in over 3500 theaters (behind Snakes on a Plane and - again - Cats & Dogs 2).
