Hollywood Salaries -- how much do people make?

Recommended Posts

The Hollywood Reporter has a breakdown of salaries for all sorts of jobs, from A-list superstar to animal wrangler. They provide ranges for the big above-the-line positions, but not below-the-line ones, which seems odd (I can speak from personal experience that some of them are off). Of course, it really depends on how often you're working. Still, it's an illuminating look into how much each job position makes.

And this just further proves that the movie star, for the most part, is dead.  When I found out that Rourke had to fight to get half a mill for the starring villain role in IM2, I was shocked.  I thought for sure a role like that would bring him in 3-5 mill, especially coming off an oscar nomination.  Salaries have plummeted while budgets have gotten out of control.

Nice read.  I like threads like these.

Voice Actors -

But major stars account for only about 20 percent of the voices you hear in commercials. The other 80 percent — non-celebrity voice actors — don't make nearly that kind of dough. Typically, they'll earn scale, which works out to about $3,000 to $5,000 an ad.

I'll take $3-5K for what is probably less than a day's work and I'm just using my voice.

A day's work? More like an hour or two at most.

Being a TV star is cool and all, but lets be real its all about being a movie star.

I don't know I'd rather take some of that Big Bang money.     They're going to be set for life, especially the three main actors.

Yeah but it s like they won the lottery with that show, earning that much in tv is even more rare than movies.

By the way, do you know who is the wealthiest actor in the world ? It s a trick question, I warn you ...

Just a pet peeve, porn stars and TV reality stars do get a mention (like we give two shits about what they earn) but no visual effects artists, no composers, no production designers nor casting directors salary range are mentioned despite being much more important to the Hollywood industry than the aforementioned categories, morever editors are considered below the line along the wigmaker?

That is nothing compared to Seinfeld money or Friends money. Since the shows were made when home video sales were still very strong, they get a massive cut from all sales to this day. And Seinfeld and Friends have both been big sellers on VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray and now Digital copies.

There was an article last year which said that the shows have earned over 4 Billion each since their last episodes aired.

Seinfeld also made a ton of money through syndication.

I ll answer my question but some of you almost did : it is not a movie star but a tv star, Jerry Seinfeld is said to be worth 800 m, more than any other actor in Hollywood because he was the star, writer, co creator and producer of´the show, so his syndication fees have been gigantic.

Larry David, co creator of Seinfeld is also said to be worth 800 m.
