MinaTakla
Do you have numbers by country? The actual country numbers for this weekend will be available in a few hours. Will post as soon as Universal releases them. And I will be posting my updated country by country projections for Minions very soon as well.
MinaTakla
Deadline: Kevin, Stuart and Bob are making their masters very happy. With today’s grosses,Illumination Entertainment and Universal’s Minions is poised to cross the $500M mark at the international box office. Sunday estimates had the Kyle Balda/Pierre Coffin-helmed origins stoy at $497.8M, and actuals now put the offshore cume at $499.4M. Combined with the domestic total of $262.5M, the worldwide booty is $761.8M. The Despicable Me 2 spinoff has been the top movie at the global box office for three consecutive weeks, and has opened No. 1 in 55 territories thus far. It’s another highly-successful collaboration between Universal and Chris Meledandri and his Illumination team. But it’s not over. Minions still has plenty of gas in the tank with seven more markets to go, including China. The first DM movie never released in the Middle Kingdom and yet DM2 grossed about $53M there in early 2014. Minions travels there on September 13. Other territories still to come are Korea on July 29, Japan on July 31, Slovenia on August 13, Italy on August 27, Turkey on September 14 and Greece on September 24. DM2 fell just shy of the $1B worldwide box office mark, topping out at $975.2M. Of that, international was $607.1M. Given the continued strong holds and the releases still on deck, there is a very good chance Minions gets to $1B in what would be even more of a milestone for both Illumination and Universal (which already has Furious 7and Jurassic World in that category this year). Comparisons of DM2‘s and Minions‘ races to $500M are somewhat moot given a much different release pattern. For the sake of detail, DM2 reached $500M 14 weeks and 3 days after the first international release date; Minions is doing so in five weeks and six days. Other Minions highlights include passing Shrek Forever After ($753.9M) to become the 10th highest grossing animated film of all time worldwide and passing Kung Fu Panda 2 ($500.5M) today to become the 10th highest grossing animated film internationally. It boasts the best animated opening weekend of all time in 29 territories including Brazil, France, Mexico, Russia and the UK; is Universal’s biggest opening weekend ever in seven territories; and had the biggest opening weekend of any film of all time in Russia and Venezuela. MinaTakla
Note that The Numbers has Mexico at 63M, this cause they took the first eight digits of the data in Mex$. The right number is 41M Agree on most numbers, but I think Minions should cross 320M DOM and also do a bit more in Europe and Latin America. Will update my country by country projections and post soon too! I think I have it going higher by 15 M Overseas than you and around 7-10 million DOM.

I think it will be 10m higher dom and will go up in China too. Should go north of 1.1b ww.
MinaTakla
Great chart. I think it will be 10m higher dom and will go up in China too. Should go north of 1.1b ww. Yea - I agree. I also think Latin America is still going strong as well as Europe. These 2 regions are doing well, and if Japan and SK end up stronger than expected, that changes a bit of my projections (in a positive way). Updating my country by country charts atm..will post soon with some updated detailed projections for each country. One interesting fact: Minions beat Frozen in Latin America already.

Mojoguy
Note that The Numbers has Mexico at 63M, this cause they took the first eight digits of the data in Mex$. The right number is 41M Frozen WW's animated film record should be safe this year. Frozen will likely end up with 80m more DOM, and 240m more in Japan than Minions. That extra 320m WW will be hard for Minions to overcome, especially with the bad exchange rate. Edited July 31, 2015 by Mojoguy

Going by this calculation Minions will be less than 950 million? This isn't likely. Edit: given the Minions lead over Frozen in LA and the close numbers in Europe, and with China coming I see Minions ending 150-170 million less than Frozen. But not 320. Mojoguy
DM2 made twice as much as DM in Japan. Any kind of growth for sequels is pretty impressive there.
tupek
Minions will be 1.10-1.15B WW in the end. I think it's going to be higher, like 1.2 - 1.25b WW. Of course, it's all in China's hands. Personally speaking, minions beating Frozen's gross would be depressing.... I think Frozen is safe WW, but sadly, with Minions doing much better than expected in SK and Japan, the OS record of $873m is starting to look in danger. Again, of course, depending in how good it does in China. Edited July 31, 2015 by tupek
MrFanaticGuy34
I personally see FD beat Frozen's WW gross next year. It's a Pixar film that has the nostalgia factor from people who remembered and loved FN. Also...China will help this Pixar film to a better gross, since it's a sequel.
