87TH ACADEMY AWARDS CEREMONY DISCUSSION THREAD AAAHHH! | Discuss It Live Here

Recommended Posts

Minorities are still at a disadvantage towards leading roles as long as producers/directors are still 90%+ white males, whether that is intentional or not. Takes a lot of time I understand but still needs to be discussed, women & non white males always deserve better.

But that has nothing to do with the academy's decision not to vote any non white actors does it? Besides, there is diversity in films, and women do have good roles in films too lol.

This is more a hollywood in general problem than an oscars itself problem. there probably needed to be more than one oscar film with black people in it for a start...

Yeah. I have never been a fan of the academy but the issue is not with them, it's with film studios and attitudes towards movies in general.

Not to mention last year the academy awarded African American film makers and actors an Oscar for a film about slavery. This year another film about slavery is made and gets more recognition and yet the academy are deemed racist due to the lack of individual nods. Maybe they shouldn't keep making films dealing with the past every year hoping for awards recognition, the last 3 years a movie about slavery has been nominated for best picture, I think it's time to move on and try and make something different.

Best Original Song: "Everything is Awesome" (I have a feeling the Academy will try and "make up" for snubbing LEGO by giving it's only award)

If your reasoning is purely because of the snub, surely Glory would be the winner? There was a lot more backlash against Oyelowo's snub than Lego Movie's, plus it's an actual legitimate problem that the voters might feel bad about (no one likes being portrayed as racist).
