I'm not entirely sure, but I'm still expecting this puppy to reach 210OS no matter what.

Probably more about taste than "smarter".  

 

My only real dog in that fight is that the DOM audience was trying very hard to send a clear message to Sony with the Spider-Man films ("Hey Sony!   Stop doing what you are doing!")

 

Trying very hard? The three "bad" SM films made $336.5M, $262M and $202.8M domestically respectively. Sure they were decreasing but how many movies pull in those kind of numbers? Even the acclaimed Winter Soldier couldn't make as much as TASM1. TASM2 made almost as much as Thor: TDW and more than Cap 1 and Thor 1. By your logic, DOM audience are trying very hard to send a clear message to Marvel that they don't want Cap and Thor solo movies as well.

France, China and Venezuela are yet to open. It's relly not doing too well overseas, but with the topic it was to be expected. Monster/Alien-Stuff is always a tougher sell overseas. See Megamind, Monsters vs. Aliens.
