Ridley Scott's THE MARTIAN lands in 3,750+ theaters next weekend---Can it top GRAVITY, which blasted off w/ $55M?

I hope Martian can beat Gravity. The latter is an overrated movie in my opinion.

Also, which order should I see the new movies (Everest, HT2, Intern) in? I would likely see one Saturday matinee, another Sunday night, and another Monday or Wednesday night.

Mojo theater counts are back! :D

The Mojo showdowns also make way too much sense now. The showdowns since Brad Brevet took over have been

The Perfect Guy vs No Good Deed

War Room vs Heaven is for Real

Black Mass vs The Town vs The Departed

Maze Runner 1 vs Maze Runner 2

All Hail The Brad.

What a shame. The movie has been holding well, there's absolutely no reasons for it to lose that many theatres...

3 wide releases and 1 2700 theater expansion in addition to last week's releases (both on over 3000 theaters) not losing any theaters as per the 2 week contract means that all holdovers need to lose screens. Almost every holdover more than 3 weeks old lost 50% or more of their theaters.

I once read that back in the days when multiplexes were smaller and there were more of them, that there was a sort of gentlemen's agreement between theater operators/chains that the same movie would not play at two theaters within a five-mile radius. I am wondering if that partially contributed to movies not being dropped as quickly as they are today.

Maybe they're all looking at this week's returns for M:I and Compton, and just assuming they'll make more from the new releases than holdovers. Their averages are getting low.

Apparently Pan opened decently in Australia yesterday. May make 3M AUD over the opening weekend there.

It will do solid business WW. Probably OZ numbers OS and Jack The Giant Slayer OW numbers DOM (with far better legs).

The last weekends actuals (the early charts are estimates)

I expect to see some strange changes in the sums as e.g. South Korea's exchange rate changed = decreased sums beside growing admissions already to see in their charts
