Romania continues to not be very superhero-crazy all in all. Its actually weaker than Thor 2 in USD. And yeah, your are right, thankfully, we are not so crazed about superheroes. Either way, AoU will likely have good legs. Most Marvel movies do. And it will end up in Top 5 for the year if something doesnt surprise. I'm curious whether if can beat 50 Shades in USD. If it has the exact same legs as TA it will barely do it, but I see it being slightly more frontloaded. FF7, Spectre, 50 Shades and likely SW will end up making more than it. This weekend, 'Mad Max: Fury Road' blazed atop of the charts. - Mad Max opened to a great 50.226 admissions and $287k. That's a slightly bigger opening than 'Jupiter Ascending' earlier this year. JA made almost $840k in the end and with seemingly even better WOM, 'Mad Max' should end up around the same. Competition will be stronger though ('Tomorrowland', 'San Andreas' and 'Jurassic World' in the coming weeks). - The Avengers: Age of Ultron now reached 210.923 admissions and $1.13m. It already sold more tickets than the first 'Avengers' (206.540) and will enetually beat that in USD too ($1.2m). Still, the title of highest grossing SH movie, which belongs to 'Thor: The Dark World' ($1.47m) is out of reach. At this point, 'Age of Ultron' has a 50/50 chance at ending up in the year's Top 5. 'Furious 7' and '50 Shades' already beat it, 'Spectre' is also locked to beat it and 'Star Wars' has a very good chance to do it. Movies that could throw it outside Top 5 are 'Jurassic World' (the first 'Jurassic Park' sold a mind-boggling 760.000 tickets back in 1994; still, expect this to go under 300.000), 'Mission Impossible', 'Mockingjay 2' (that will be shown exclusively in 3D here) or a surprise hit (every year we have at least one). - Hot Pursuit was down 43% in it's second outing and now stands at middling $146k. - The Age of Adaline had another good hold (-46%) and reached a decent enough $224k. - Coconut The Little Dragon 3D opened to a weak 6.058 adm and $27k. - Fast and Furious 7 was off 41%. The total is a stunning $2.71m and 644.102 admissions. It is the third highest grossing movie ever (behind 'Avatar' and the final film in 'The Hobbit' trilogy), the 2nd most attended movie of the 21st century (behind 'Avatar's 881.718 adm) and the 11th most attended movie ever. - She's Funny That Way continued it's weak run. - Tinker Bell and the Legend of the Neverbeast slided 33% and reached a very good $396k. - The top is concluded by Paul Bart: Mall Cop 2 and A Little Chaos. Top 10 Next week's openers: - Tomorrowland - Poltergeist 3D - Pasolini - Carmen (local film) We love SF movies and it is very hard for a big action spectacle not to do at least decent business here so expect Tomorrowland to open over 30.000 adm. Horror on the other hand is pretty dead. So if Poltergeist touches 20.000 adm it will be a miracle. The other two will miss 10.000 tickets. James Posted June 25, 2015 Share Posted June 25, 2015 (edited) WEEKEND BOX-OFFICE Students finishsing the exam period and bad weather this past weekend finally gave us good drops and a good weekend in this shit Summer (seriously, it is horrible; no title this Summer, except for maybe 'Age of Ultron', made the audiences go WOW; we'll have to wait for 'Minions' and 'Mission Impossible' to save the situation; MI5 is lock to win this summer by far. - Jurassic World eased 17% in it's second outing and reached a very good $675k after 10 days (it entered Top 10 for 2015). Assuming sunny days don't completely kill it, it should finish with at least $1.1m, which was pretty much my prediction for it at the beginning of the year. - In second place, Inside Out debuted with 29.919 admissions and $151k. That would not sound so bad if it wouldn't be the widest release in history by far (121 screens), ahead of 'Big Hero 6's 108 screens. I really don't get how Disney/Pixar are so incapable of marketing a movie here. Like, every single animation from them which is not a princess movie either disappoints or bombs in the worst possible way (the 'Toy Story' trilogy and 'Monster University' are still memorable for their utterly shit runs). Still, it is a family movie, so it might have good drops in the next two weeks, until 'Minions' comes out and annihilates it. - Insidious: Chapter 3 nearly doubled the last entry in the series, but it still bombed with 13.726 admissions and $59k. - San Andreas incresed 5% in it's fourth weekend and reached $548k, demonstrating very good legs after it's not very impressive opening. - Entourage dropped 34% from its opening weekend and now stands at $126k. - Spy increased a big 34% but the cume is a middling $181k. - Ex Machina flopped. It made only $26k over the 3-day weekend. - Mad Max: Fury Road continues to be an audience favourite. In it's 6th outing it eased a light 11% and reached a great $844k. - Survivor placed 9th. - Tomorrowland closes the top, after a 1% drop. It stands at $292k, which is pretty bad for an original SF here. Top 10 Next week's openers: - Ted 2 - La famille Belier The first 'Ted' was a hit here back in 2012, opening with 23.500 adm and $113k on it's way to a very good 125.000 adm and $520k. Expect 'Ted 2' to be bigger. An opening over 30.000 adm seems like a lock and 40.000+ adm isn't out of the question either. Top 10 for 2015 Also, Top 20 Highest Grossing Movies Ever Two 2015 movies made it into the Top 20 Ever so far: 'Fast and Furios 7' on no. 3 and 'Fifty Shades of Grey on no. 17. As for the Yearly Box Office, 2015 runs 5% ahead of 2014 in admissions, but 16% behind in USD, thanks to the horrible exchange rates. James Posted July 9, 2015 Share Posted July 9, 2015 Fast update on then last two weekends: - Two weeks ago, Ted 2 opened to a great 39.481 admissions and $181k, which was well ahead of it's predecessor (23.500 adm and $113k). Last weekend it dropped 55%. That is actually a way better drop than the first 'Ted' had and it's total reached $366k (compared to the 230k for 'Ted' through the same point). It had some great, great weekdays and it should end up above $600k. - Also last weekend, Terminator: Genisys opened with 35.426 adm and $203k. That is more than double what 'Terminator: Salvation' did back in 2009, but then again, that was a big disappointment. Still, if it manages the same legs, it will end up above 600k, which is decent. - In other news, Jurassic World passed the $1m border, becoming the 4th movie this year to do so, while Inside Out reached $423k after three outings, which is the same as 'Big Hero 6' earlier this year. That ended up doing $555k, and 'Inside Out' should follow suit, that is if 'Minions' doesn't completely obliterate it this weekend. - Also, Fast and Furious 7 concludes it's run with an incredible 650.442 admissions (2nd most attended movie of the 21st century, only after 'Avatar's 881.718 adm) and $2.74m (3rd highest grossing film ever behind 'Avatar' - $6.35m and 'The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies' - $2.94m). - And Avengers: Age of Ultron passed 'Iron Man 3' to become the 2nd highest grossing superhero flick ever, behind 'Thor: The Dark World' ($1.47m). This week's openers: - And speaking of Minions, the presales for the DM spin-off look big. An opening above 50.000 admissions should be a lock and the animation OW record held by 'Frozen' (73.854 adm) isn't out of reach also. Top 10 Highest Grossing Movies of 2015 The Top 10 as of now contains 4 Universal titles, 3 Warner Bros titles, while Disney, Fox and Lionsgate each have 1. It is a small hit and bigger than all Pixar movies except for Brave. Pixar isn't really a brand here. As for Insurgent, it wont stay in the top for too long.
