By Europeans I assume you mean the French and we know how much the French film industry loves their rapists. The thing is Kevin Spacey's actions have gotten way too much mainstream media coverage for him to ever start getting work for something big in Hollywood again. It's a massive risk for any major studio to greenlight a multi-million dollar movie with him in it.

Kevin Spacey has not been welcomed by the European industry. Just wanted to make that clear.

Yep.  He's only grabbed a few roles in fringe/independent invested productions that are unlikely to make any big impact culturally or on any box office.  Everyone in the industry has known for decades what kind of a problem he is...he was shielded for years by monetarily-successful people like Bryan Singer (who's finally been ousted from the industry, himself), but there seem to be enough higher-ups now who aren't willing to tolerate it any more.

Cancel culture isn't real. It's a term that was made up by conservatives and rich folk so they don't have to worry about being held accountable for their actions. Just create some false boogeyman that makes it easier for them to not actually get in trouble.

It's always funny to me how people decry cancel culture and how it ruins lives, yet every time it happens, either increased sales happen, or said figures, who 9 times out of 9 are richer than we will ever be, are given a new opportunity a few months later. Like it doesn't actually matter or something.

Then why do so many leftists say cancel culture is bad then? Like marjot attwood and many others.

It's not even political...it's this idea of selectively paying attention to one person behavior cause it trending on social media without caring for a full story. It's a reason why cancel culture had such a backlash as it was very subjective and made no sense. I agree right wingers weaponized it into.a bogeyman.

People I think these days now want to see things with nuance more and then pass judgment.

Toxic behavior is still called out...it just people don't foam at thier mouths from a single tweet.

Because they also did and said problematic stuff and don't like being held accountable for their actions. Use the cancel culture boogeyman to get out of your problem. It definitely goes both ways.

But issue is cancel culture was seen as toxic cause it was based on acting as a mob online without looking at all the details and ignoring other people behaviors cause it wasn't trending.

Like you care one actor tweet from 12 years ago cause it trending but ignore another actor abuse cause it not trending.

As I said people call out toxic shit but the mob mentality has calm.down.

We more let things play out now And we better for it.

If Vin acted bad..a case and investigations will happen and we go from there.

polls show people are heavily aware of "cancel culture" and also don't agree with it

Poll: 69 percent say cancel culture unfairly punishes people for past actions, statements – The Hill

that doesn't mean of course people accused have done nothing wrong, but I think we are now past the point where a major figure at least will get fired before any legal outcomes

Which is for the best.

Cancel culture sort of took a u turn around 2019 2020.

Many progressives now say cancel culture isn't real cause it exposed a lot of thier flaws and hypocrisy

issue was many leaders like biden and trudeau faced serious questions about sexual stuff or blackface. And then many people pushing cancel culture where "well wait those allegations are fake or everyone makes mistakes"

The hypocrisy was exposed and we realized we went from one extreme of tolerating toxic behavior to then going on witch hunts like a mob.

[in translation] - This Thursday, May 19, the Mayor of Vila Real, Rui Santos, announced that the city and elsewhere in the region would be the stage for filming for a Hollywood production, linked to “ high speed ”, which will coincide with the International Circuit between 1 and 3 July. He also mentioned that about 600 people will be during “almost two months”, in Vila Real, associated with these filming and that electricians, carpenters, warehouse owners, etc, hotels and restaurants are being contacted to provide services to “this producer”.

We don't have tax credits for this but that's 5-7 weeks of filming in Portugal (mostly of, I'm assuming, second unit work) involving 600 (another sources said 600-700) workers. What would that cost?

It's ~24M euros according to a law firm retained by the production company
