BEST NEWS today!

Animated film MY LIFE AS A COURGETTE submitted by Switzerland for the Foreign BP!

My favorite animated film of the year along with Red Turtle and Zoo

This has a shot at a nom in the animated category as well.

Wow! It speaks volumes about a film's quality if a whole country is willing to back the film in question.

Awards Watch sees this as a close race between Moana and Zootopia.

That's Moana with 44 points, Zootopia with 40 points and The Red Turtle with 32 points.

I'm more leaning towards Moana now too, I mean it looks fantastic, will have the benefit of being released late and remaining fresh in the voters minds, and will have some LMM boost too.

How about a Sausage Party upset?

SP ain't upsetting anything, but Kubo might end up being stronger than I thought

No, I think there's a chance that Sausage Party could take Kubo's spot.

I think Moana and Zootopia are nearly guaranteed nominations and the other 3 places are up for grabs. I don't even think Finding Dory is certain.

If Kubo's reviews keep up like this it's not going anywhere. And Dory is too successful and too well reviewed in its own right to get the shaft in favor of an R rated niche movie.

It's not like Sausage Party is chopped liver, you know.

There have been years when films with a similar level of critical acclaim as Sausage Party have been nominated, but those years haven't been nearly as competitive as this year. If any of the consensus top five contenders miss, it'll be The Little Prince or My Life as a Courgette that displace them, not Sausage Party.

Aside from it not being nearly as acclaimed as those two, I suspect it's the wrong flavour of animated film for the tastes of the Academy. Hard to say for certain though since there aren't many others like it.

I'm going to update my selection.

Zootopia

Finding Dory

Kubo and the Two Strings

Moana

The Red Turtle

I'm going completely safe!

And I'm apologizing now for putting Storks in over Zootopia back in February. That was quite a dumb move.

This is my prediction too...who the winner is is a whole other game...mainly between Disney properties.

Honestly, I'm feeling,

Zootopia

Finding Dory

Kubo and the Two Strings

Moana

The Little Prince

Though, I'm unsure if the Little Prince can be nominated this year, but, I really don't have a backup for it.

It's eligible. We just have to be on the lookout for The Red Turtle's oscar qualifying run.
