CoolioD1
there's a lot this year to loo forward to when i'll finally be able to see them in like 10 months time or whatever. The Andrea Arnold and Park Chan-Wook movies especially have my interest.
AniNate
Looks like Cafe Society is more middling Allen. Cross that off the list.
CoolioD1
^if we're talking awards potential Vittorio Storaro will probably end up being an easy oscar nod. all the reviews i've seen have singled his work out and he's a legend.
Jake Gittes
Storaro is THE reason I'm gonna see it, preferably in the theater.
Jake Gittes
Looks like Toni Erdmann is the first big Palme contender. Seen dozens of reactions and they're pretty much all ecstatic.
AniNate
Personal Shopper looks to be the official dog of the fest
CoolioD1
not really. There are pans sure but the raves I've seen have more interesting things to say about it. It's actually more on my radar than it was before. Especially consider I did nooooot like the clouds of sils Maria.

filmlover
It isn't the Cannes film festival unless at least one movie gets booed.

WrathOfHan
So with only one day of films left, I think it's safe to say we don't have any Oscar contenders (haven't been following the foreign flicks): Loving will be good for one or two acting nominations, maybe a screenplay nomination Cafe Society will get into Cinematography and maybe Screenplay The BFG's only potential nomination is Score Hands of Stone is a nonstarter
AniNate
The Last Face has a 1.4 average rating on RT

CoolioD1
Verhoeven getting some niiiiiiice words said about it. also sounds like a thinkpiece mine field which i guess is what you'd expect from the maestro. That, Toni Erdmann and the Jarmusch probably ended up being the competition films I'm most interested in seeing.
Jake Gittes
Those three and The Handmaiden for me. And Refn.
Jake Gittes
Quote Palme d'Or: Ken Loach, 'I, Daniel Blake' Grand Prix: Xavier Dolan, "It's Only The End of the World" Jury Prize: Andrea Arnold, "American Honey" Best Actress: Jaclyn Jose, "Ma Rosa" Best Actor: Shahab Hosseini, "The Salesman" Best Director: Olivier Assayas, "Personal Shopper" & Cristian Mungui, "Graduation" Best Screenplay: Asghar Farhadi, "The Salesman" I get that my perspective is probably limited because I only followed The AV Club's coverage, but aside from The Salesman those winners seem meh as hell. No Toni Erdmann, no Paterson, no The Handmaiden, no Elle. Those are by far the films I'm looking forward to the most. CoolioD1
I like loach but I think he gets quite didactic when his films get political, as much as I would agree with any criticism of Cameron's Britain. At least the fact that it's a British picture means it'll be easier for me to get to than the last couple winners.
bartonfink
I like Xavier Dolan's works but Grand Prix? Wow...it must be misunderstood masterpiece or Cannes film festival REALLY adores him.
