If underperform means "debuted lower than Ultron" then Japan is also a candidate, though I wouldn't say it really underperformed there, just in line with expectations in a country which isn't as fond of superheroes as others.

Relative to China, presales seem to follow a similar pattern to Furious 8, which did over 400 million with current ER.

 

Relative to OS-Russia-China, I do not know what is wrong. Legs use to be better OS than in USA.

The question is in which regard 'underperformed'?

Relatively to expectations, I think it overperformed everywhere.

Relatively to Superhero movies, it overperformed everywhere (apart from Japan and Germany and France to a certain degree as it isn't the highest Superhero opening in these three)

Relatively to other Gigantic-Blockbusters (Basically again Japan, Germany and France and probably to a certain Degree other parts of Europe, though I am not sure about that)

BTW, it is the biggest SH opening ever (applying current ER, €7m). The previous record was €5.3m of TA.

The question is how the developing markets will behave.

As in some the Opening Weekend is close to the previous highest total.

And it seems to have gotten an incredible high screen share in most countries (like more than half, while in Japan and Germany films (think it mostly is the same in UK and France) don't get more than a third of the screens)

Ultron opened to 16m and barely had legs. It ended up grossing 34m thats fine considering Russia is a front loaded market. Do you think AIW would open lesser than AoU? Is ER that bad?

Well....it would be dumb if i'd say on basis of comparison with AoU . But has it opened lesser than ultron in any market? 

I dont think so. Overall i think AIW has overperformed everywhere.

Yeah, 

but Strong local for France and Japan yes, but not so much for Germany (local movie market share normally around 20%) 

 

What I also forgot, France and Germany count admissions not money, so that makes it harder.

In $ it at least is the Top Opening Weekend in Germany (in admissions it is Spider-Man with 1.4M compared to IW with 1M)

While that's true Friday is one of the lowest weekdays in Japan so it usually doesn't burn that much demand. A few weeks ago a local franchise released annually broke its 2 day OW despite opening on a Friday for the first time in over 20 years.

 

And it makes even less sense to compare F-S to S-S and say it opened higher.
