Prince of Egypt

or

How @Isle of Pasta Fucked Up Prince of Egypt

This is the second time this year I trolled Pasta by implying I trashed a movie of his only for that troll review to be oddly prophetic. I must be psychic.

Before we delve into THAT ONE SCENE, here's a rundown of the changes I liked:

- An all Arabic cast is the right way to go.

- Combining the two priests into one character was a smart choice since as two they were redundant in the animated version.

- The final confrontation between Moses and Rameses is a unique way of interpreting the Red Sea sequence and gives the relationship between the two characters some closure.

The changes I didn't like:

- The part I mentioned where instead of killing a slave-whipper Moses just pushes Rameses into a wall and he gets hurt. I get the intent but it just makes Moses look weaker when he decides to run away. Having killed a man is a far more powerful motive and if anything the live-action version should've explored that aspect to a greater extent instead of bizarrely trying to soften a PG-rated animated movie.

- While I praised Huy earlier, his redemption arc is forced and the motivation is lackluster (doesn't help it's tied into the worst aspect of the film which I'll get to.)

- The implication that Rameses may not even have made it back to Egypt. I understand when Pasta says that wasn't the intent but since the last we see of him is him collapsing in the sand it sure gives the impression. Also makes the Red Sea scene I praised earlier kinda moot.

The big rant is coming in the next post.

While I will probably explain what I was thinking in writing that scene, I will admit that the reprise was pretty damn unnecessary.

That unnecessary reprise is small potatoes compared to the big fuckup.
