Rorschach
May 7-9: ‘Bounty Hunters’ makes animated history with $128.6 million While it may not have opened as high as some were predicting, Hourglass Animations’ ‘Two Lonely Bounty Hunters’ made away with a giant bounty this weekend, collecting a massive $128.6 million opening weekend. The acclaimed animated sequel bested the animated opening weekend record held by the Number One Dime ($120.7 million). Thanks to stellar reviews and a perfect A+ cinemascore, the film should play well through the rest of the month and into June. Last weekend’s top film, ‘Green Lantern Corps’ dropped -56.4% to second place, earning $46.3 million for the weekend. 1. Two Lonely Bounty Hunters - $128,581,344 (1st week) 2. Green Lantern Corps: Rise of the Manhunters - $46,333,910 (2nd week) (-56.4%) 3. Best Friends - $7,054,983 (3rd week) (-39%) 4. Steel Streaks - $5,128,786 (5th week) (-41.4%) 5. The Epsilon Syndicate: Union of Thieves - $1,514,385 (8th week) (-43.3%) 9. Crusader - $867,284 (7th week) (-42.5%) 10. Miserable Fans - $649,619 (6th week) (-47.2%) May 14-16: ‘Bounty Hunters’ repeats but ‘Chaperone’ no ‘Drowsy’ slouch Once again ‘Two Lonely Bounty Hunters claimed the top spot at the box office, making an estimated $73 million dropping only -43.2%, a great drop all things considered. Meanwhile the musical adaptation of ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ proved to hold its own this weekend, posting a solid $28.9 million at the weekend box office, enough for a solid second place finish. The film scored an A- with audiences. 1. Two Lonely Bounty Hunters - $73,064,947 (2nd week) (-43.2%) 2. The Drowsy Chaperone - $28,911,921 (1st week) 3. Green Lantern Corps: Rise of the Manhunters - $25,073,303 (3rd week) (-45.9%) 4. Best Friends - $4,908,818 (4th week) (-30.4%) 5. Steel Streaks - $3,313,196 (6th week) (-35.4%) 6. Artifacts: Zephyr’s Crest - $1,130,195 (8th week) (-35.3%) 7. The Epsilon Syndicate: Union of Thieves - $1,029,782 (9th week) (-32%) 8. Veggies in the Rain: Veggies in the Rain - $945,088 (7th week) (-40.3%) 9. Deeper - $733,871 (5th week) (-66.6%) 10. The Last Six - $520,786 (10th week) (-34.7%) May 21-23: ‘Call of Duty’ shoots to kill Coming off of the first film’s disappointing opening 2 years ago ($45 million), ‘Call of Duty 2’ managed to bounce back, grossing an estimated $64.1 million for the weekend. The action sequel managed to pull in $64.1 million for the weekend, a solid improvement all things considered. However, like the first film, we expect legs to be fairly weak. The film posted a B+ cinemascore. Meanwhile, ‘Two Lonely Bounty Hunters’ continued to make solid bank, nearly cracking $50 million in its third week of release, which should translate nicely for Memorial Day weekend. 1. Call of Duty: Of Their Own Accord - $64,079,381 (1st week) 2. Two Lonely Bounty Hunters - $49,836,988 (3rd week) (-31.8%) 3. The Drowsy Chaperone - $17,318,921 (2nd week) (-40.1%) 4. Green Lantern Corps: Rise of the Manhunters - $15,025,784 (4th week) (-40.1%) 5. Best Friends - $3,086,049 (5th week) (-37.1%) 6. Steel Streaks - $2,000,280 (7th week) (-39.6%) 7. Veggies in the Rain: A VeggieTales Movie - $654,956 (8th week) (-30.7%) 10. Deeper - $347,855 (6th week) (-52.6%) May 28-31 (Memorial Day weekend): ‘Bounty Hunters’ steal back the top spot, ‘Valley’ disappoints In a surprising turn of events for the holiday weekend, ‘Two Lonely Bounty Hunters’ to usurp the top spot this weekend. The animated sequel continues to do well, having posted another $41 million over the 4 Day weekend. Meanwhile, both of this weekend’s new films opened on the lower end of expectations on their respective ends. ‘In The Valley’ marked the year’s first big underperformance, posting $32.1 million for the 3 Day weekend and $39.1 million for the 4 Day weekend, marking one of the lower openings in Gold Crescent Pictures’ unofficial ‘Disaster-verse’, opening more on the lines of ‘White Hurricane\’ than ‘The Towering Inferno” or ‘Cataclysmic’. The film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, who gave the film a B cinemascore. With a $160 million price tag, the film will have to have decent legs and a healthy sum overseas if it has hopes of recouping its money back. Meanwhile, the Adam Sandler ensemble comedy ‘Gold Diggers’ made away with $20.1 million for the 4 Day weekend. The film only costed $25 million to make so the film should end with a decent amount of change in the end. The film scored also received a B cinemascore. 1. Two Lonely Bounty Hunters - $32,193,987/$41,039,270 (4th week) (-35.4%) 2. In The Valley - $32,101,970/$39,121,659 (1st week) 3.
