May 28-31 (Memorial Day weekend): ‘Bounty Hunters’ steal back the top spot, ‘Valley’ disappoints

In a surprising turn of events for the holiday weekend, ‘Two Lonely Bounty Hunters’ to usurp the top spot this weekend. The animated sequel continues to do well, having posted another $41 million over the 4 Day weekend. Meanwhile, both of this weekend’s new films opened on the lower end of expectations on their respective ends. ‘In The Valley’ marked the year’s first big underperformance, posting $32.1 million for the 3 Day weekend and $39.1 million for the 4 Day weekend, marking one of the lower openings in Gold Crescent Pictures’ unofficial ‘Disaster-verse’, opening more on the lines of ‘White Hurricane\’ than ‘The Towering Inferno” or ‘Cataclysmic’. The film received mixed reviews from critics and audiences, who gave the film a B cinemascore. With a $160 million price tag, the film will have to have decent legs and a healthy sum overseas if it has hopes of recouping its money back. Meanwhile, the Adam Sandler ensemble comedy ‘Gold Diggers’ made away with $20.1 million for the 4 Day weekend. The film only costed $25 million to make so the film should end with a decent amount of change in the end. The film scored also received a B cinemascore.
